Wall Pedestal

I got a pretty good buck this year that I'm considering having done as a wall pedestal. I really don't like the wall pedestal mannikan with the one shoulder partitially amputated and am looking for a mannikan that has both shoulders fully intact. Does anyone know of any such forms and have any photos of deer done this way?

I really like the "floating" wall pedestals I've seen in the past...does anyone have any pics?

Do you have a picture of your buck. Can't help on the pedestal part but not sure I ever seen a bad one. Pedestal mounts are great.

Congrats on your buck! You can go online to taxidermy suppliers like Jonas, Van Dykes, McKenzie, Research Mannikins, to get some ideas. I have their catalogs and there is some other options. I do not like the wall peds, I think they are an ugly design. I am also thinking about doing a pedestal on the lope I got at the Sheldon, but it will not be on a wall ped.

Here is a shot of the wall pedestal my taxidermist and I did of an antelope I got. Might give some ideas. If you want both shoulders, you could buy a 1/2 body mannequin and carve to suit, or glue on a foam slab to the back of a regular shoulder mount form and carve to suit.

Hey Jim, just ask your taxidermist to modify a regular shoulder form to your specifications. Balance can be a problem depending where the head is on the wall mount. There are hangers availible to counter that problem though.

Like Redrabbit's antelope, rocks make a nice addition and balance the mount, but usually cost 20% more.

Good luck, Steve

These are both wall pedestals, just not mounted on the wall. I can't remember who makes the form but I liked it the best because they didn't have the hunch as bad on the back like the Mckenzie form. I am getting this years buck on the same form only he will be on the wall.

Try one of these Animals in Motion pedestals by Sam Raby. It rotates from the wall, as well allowing the mount to swivel too. Gives you multiple looks at the same mount.

There are some beautiful mounts there! I'd like to know where Saskman's taxidermist got the artifcial sagebrush and aspen... Been looking for some for a diorama for a european mount.

The sage is real but we got the aspens from a company called commercial silk international. They are the company who supplies cabelas with their artificial trees and plants. They will custom make the trees to whatever size you want and the price is quite reasonable. I think I paid $125 per tree for the ones on that mount.

Holy smokes guys, those are some great critters and mounts! Marley and Saskman, do you know which forms were used on your muley mounts and whether they are wall pedestal forms or others that were altered? Marley, I love the S-curve on side of your muley and can't understand why there aren't more forms available with the S-curve!

I'm currently also working on a wall elk pedestal. Starting off from scratch using a regular wall form adding to the back and putting an S-curve on one side. Hopefully there will be clearance. The swivel mount is also a great idea!

I know my form is a wall pedestal, it has not been modified at all. I am not sure of the name of the form or who makes it but I will e-mail my taxidermist and get the make of it.

Sorry, I don't know what brand of form mine is either but I will ask my taxidermist. I do know though that it came just like what you see other than my taxidermist had to split the neck and head to make it wider for my buck. He ordered the largest size they had (sizes are more limited with the wall pedestals I think) and he still had to alter it. Huge bodied deer, biggest I've ever seen. He was aged by the Division of wildlife for their basin survey and they aged him at 8 years old.

Pushing this post aside for a second... This has got to be the most beautiful pedestal mount I've ever senn!!! Those bucks are beautiful and the accents on the pedestal are just that much better... Who did this for you???

The taxidermy was done by Kay's Taxidermy here in Saskatchewan and we did the pedestal ourselves. My dad made the base and I did up the habitat. I got my inspiration from seeing the mule deer museum at Cabelas in Kansas City. I was in heaven in that place and wanted something like it in my basement, only on a smaller scale.

Not a wall mount pedestal, but a pedestal none the less. I really liked the form he used on this one.

Saskman, the mannikins on your deer are made by Trufitt out of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Here is a speed goat I just did for a friend. I am just getting started doing taxidermy, and I think it turned out pretty good for my third mount ever and my first goat.

Those are not Tru-Fitt heads though, he must have swapped them out.
