We just returned from Area 41. We should have been hiking in 1'-2' of snow, instead we hunted in T-shirts by mid morning. We saw a lot of does and young bucks. We hunted from the top of Grand Mesa to the flats east of Whitewater. We ended up taking 2 4x4's that were 20" and 22". Burned 7 points on the tag and got a full moon and no weather to show for it. It never got dark. As soon as the sun set, the moon was up and you didn't need a flashlight in the morning to get to your hunting area. We were stopped and checked by a G&F guy and he said that it was the warmest winter he has seen in the area in the 10 years that he has been there. By the way, the G&F guy was the most pleasant and helpful of any that I have ever encountered in the field. Area 41 didn't suffer the terrible winter kill that most other areas did. The bucks didn't even start showing any sign of rut until Saturday morning. This is going to really but a hurt to the fawns next year if the breeding doesn't start soon.
