If you had 2 bucks standing in front of you and your comfortable range. 1 that was about 20 inches wide with awesome forks great eye guards great mass and trash say about 180. and the other was no question over thirty with ok forks and kinda willowy probably score about 160-165. which would you shoot.

I like my women just a little on the trashy side. When they wear their clothes to tight and their hair is dyed.

A trashy buck is the next best thing.

--I'm looking for a man... who calls himself Bucho! That's all! And you had to do it, the hard way!--

I actually shot a buck like the 20 incher you mentioned this year. I wasn't going to take the shot till he turned to the side. He ended up scoring 174 gross. The only difference was he wasn't standing next to a 30 incher. Not sure what I would do in that situation. Probably would depend on how much time I had to really look them over before taking the shot. Not a lot of time I would probably shoot for width since it is usually a little easier to judge quickly, but with time I'd take the more impressive buck.

Here are a couple of pic of him for ya. He is a 4x6. Enjoy.

As you described them... i'd probably take the 30 incher but have passed on just that kind of buck before so maybe, C) none of the above.

I'd love to take alp75's buck though! shooter!!

I'd probably shoot the 20 incher with deep forks...cause as we all know its not about the width that makes a buck score well...but its all personal interest..if you like wide bucks you'll shot the 30 incher, but for me the high and deep forked bucks are the ones i really like to see.

all depends on the unit being hunted. if it were a general season unit it would not matter just shoot cause you may have to settle for a forky just like 90% of the other hunters out there. if it were a draw unit or state i would hold off on both depending on how much time i had left, last day maybe two one would die probably the one with extras and mass

I'd shoot both...LOL...just one year apart...quick shot would be the 30"...plenty of time 30"...I think 180 bucks are more common than 30+"...IMO

The 20 inch wide one. I love mass and deep forks. Having one that is wide is a plus if he has the mass and depth.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-18-08 AT 11:03AM (MST)[p]I personally think width is over rated, most of the great bucks I have seen (around 180) are not any more than 27 wide. That being said, I shot a nice buck this year 21 wide scores right at 160, and a buddy shot one 31 wide that scored the exact same! Most everyone I have talked to looking at the 2 pictures seem to be more interested in the wider buck.

alp75. My arse that thing scores 175. Now tell us all the real score. that's a 190 buck you moron! holy crap that thing's huge. But what do I know. I killed my very first 4x4 this year in colorado and am only 30 years old.

Width aint everything in my eyes but neither is score I like character, mass, height. Some of the coolest bucks I have ever seen were basket bucks no more than 22-23 inches wide. I would have to smoke the trashy 4 point with not as much width. I heard Ryan hatch say this but "The trophy is in the eye of the beholder"!!

Hey stinky.

You may be right. I have only thrown a tape on my last couple bucks and I don't claim to be an expert by any means. He is just under 20" wide, I honestly thought he would score closer to 160 till I came up with the total! The 27" wide typical I shot a couple years ago only scored 158, but then again I could have made some mistakes on that one as well. Goes to show that width isn't quite everything.

Here is my answer.

He is not my biggest but definitly my narrowest and favorite buck - I like the mass/trash/character factor. I found this guy's shed and hunted him for two years with my bow before taking him with a rifle. He was on the downhill slide as his previous year's rack was even nicer.
