This was my first Muzzy hunt deer. Started hiking in around 5:00 to get to trail head on my wheeler. Hiked in about 2.25 miles and came across him. I had seen a larger deer in this area in earlier scouting trips so I was hesitant on pulling the trigger on him. I watched him for what seemed to be an hour (10 minuets) and at 156 yards decided to let lead fly. I had open sights so I was a bit worried about a bad shot. I held right on his heart squeezed the trigger and capow...... let the smoke clear and he was down. After field dressing him and hanging him in a pine tree and started my hike out to recruit some help getting him out.
About 1/2 mile on my way out, there he was 75 yards staring at me broad side, the buck I was after. He was shot during the rifle hunt that year and one the big buck contest at Als Sporting goods. He was just over 30" and had about 7 to 8" eye guards.
That's my luck. I was still very happy to have taken my buck for a first muzz buck.
Great hunt.
