Well, I'm the rookie once again lookingto try something new. I am trying to line up a fun hunt for me, my father, my lil' lady and her father. And I keep bouncing around trying to figure out where to go So I thought I would seek professional help.....lol......and you guys are it.

We are a group of Easterners with good hunting ethics and respect of the land. we enjoy DIY hunts that are maybe not for wall hanging trophies but just a good time and a chance to hunt something new.

I am torn between Colorado, Montana and Wyoming........Where would you go?
No preference points saved, not loaded with cash to drop on an outfitter?

Heard Colorado got hit pretty hard with winter kill and success was down this year?

Anyways, any info would be great folks. Thank you for your time!

I'm not an expert on the regs for all three, but I'm sure you'll need to put in for a draw on any critters in any of the three states. I personally hunted Wyoming this year for deer (had to draw) and will not be putting in for deer next year. I'd try an antelope hunt in Wyoming, should be fun for everyone, and your chances of getting drawn are better too. (I think) There maybe some units you can get OTC?

You will need to apply in all western states. Colorado has the largest number of deer, and has by far the most successful deer managment, and BY FAR the largest number of B&C, P&Y, and SCI entries. (All time as well as the last 10 years)
New Mexico does not have a point system so you are on a level field with the rest of us. Utah is the easiest draw with the lowest trophy potietial.

My 2 cents.

I'll agree, that an antelope hunt is a great way to enjoy the hunt and have alot of fun. That is what got this whole thing started. A few years ago i took everyone to the grasslands in Wyoming for a antelope hunt and we all had a great time.....now they have been buggin' me ever since wanting to know where we are headed next.

I know Colorado has a few units that can be draws with no points success rates are low, around 30% or less so even with the winter kill rumor it is still an option. but I've been reading on Idaho and Montana and you can't over look Wyoming. And it's been a bit over whelming so I wanted to step back and see what other thought.

Thank you for your reply.

I keep coming back to montana, Iv had a few people ell me tags are fairly easy to draw and the hunting a great. They say you may not see any monster buck but good buck are there. So now i just have to start breaking down the units and see what I think.
