My buddy killed this buck on the Wasatch two thursdays ago. His name is Corey Games and he made a great shot at 80 yards. On that day we had 4 of us hunting together and Corey caught this buck chasing a doe through a well used escape route. He only went 50 yards before piling up and he had lots of help to pack him 2 hours pack to the truck. Congrats to Corey on a well earned buck.

Great buck. It looks like it is a 2x3, if so glad he was taken out of the gene pool. Tell you buddy congrats.

3 by 3 24" wide. Bad angle for picture but fairly symetrical 3 by 3. The shot was quartering away pretty hard so although the entrance hole is back it exited well and there was tonz of blood. He only went 50 yards or so.

Congrats on your success. That was a very lucky shot at 80 yards. I'm glad it worked out this time. Closer is better with archery equipment.

Its up to the archer to decide how far he shoots. I saw a video of Fred Bear shooting a Tiger on the dead run at 60 yards with his old recurve. I never heard anyone bugging him about ethics. With todays equipment 80 yards in the right conditions is a reasonable shot with a lot of practice. Please don't turn this into another MM "how far is too far"--We have all heard that before and I for one don't want to hear it again. The bottom line is YOU decide how far YOU are comfortable shooting.

You are right. Everyone has to set his own limits, and I am very glad it worked out for the shooter.

Based on my own personal experience, alot can happen at 80 yards, and I've had a couple that didn't turn out very well.

Great buck Corey! I used to think that hunting on the extended wasatch was a slam dunk. The more I hunt and hear about various hunts up there, the more I respect a great buck like this.

I have to edit my statement about Fred Bear. I thought it was a video I saw but it was actually something I read in his book.(Hunt with Fred Bear) I reread it and it was actually "pacing" not running and it was actually 80 yards not 60. I can't imagine that shot with a recurve but I guess thats why hes the MAN!
