Ok thinking about 2010 want to start doing a little home work on this I will have max points. Recommend me some good outfitters to look into?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-08 AT 05:24PM (MST)[p]I would just save the money it takes to travel to Wyoming. The deer herds here have been exploited not managed and we no longer have a throphy deer herd. Sure there are big deer killed here every year. Just like every other state but looking at the total health of the herd its the dumps. Not to mention last winter was pretty bad. If anything wait until its gets better. Save your points. Its almost a god dang mircle for a buck to live past 3 1/2 - 4 1/2 anymore

Try Robb Wiley of NonTypical Outfitters. He runs an ad in the back of Muley Crazy Magazine. Robb lives in Alpine Wyoming, hunts both Wyoming and Idaho. I just got back from a hunt in Idaho with him and he's a great guy. Hard hunter, and runs very good outfitting business.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-08 AT 09:58PM (MST)[p]What do I want? Great question. I found it very hard to wright it down. Here are a few.

No hotels. I am a tent or cabin in the area person.
Remote or private land. Want to get away from the crowd.
I prefer open country.
I want to hunt. Spot and stalk prefered.
I hate to put a number on it but something that grosses in the 180+ range. That would make it a good mature deer. A mature buck with character.
Archery, Muzzy, Rifle not really sure. I hunt with all three. Could go anyway.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-11-08 AT 10:53PM (MST)[p]There are a few private ranches in Wyoming that offer legitimate 180+ gun hunts but they are expensive. If your an archery hunter you have more options at 1/2 the price. I can honestly say I have three ranches in that state that archery hunters would find 180+ bucks. If your going the public land route +1 to what Buck Nuts said.

Well if you want a remote wilderness type hunt I would recommend regions G or H and a couple of outfitters to consider would be Bob Barlow at Barlow Outfitters or Alan Yeaman at Double Y Outfitters. They will both pack you back in and away from the roads and other hunters. With max points both of those regions will be a guaranteed tag.

If you want a private land hunt check out Hunton Creek Outfitters in Region J. This will also be a guaranteed tag. Hunton Creek has over 100,000 acres of private ranches to hunt and they have taken some great bucks.

With max points you might want to consider one of the limited quota areas like unit 82 or 128. The odds are not very good of getting the tag, in fact, they really kind of suck. However, the trophy potential is certainly there.

Good luck,

Jon

Wyoming outfitter and guide association puts out a yearly magazine. It has most oufitters in wyoming with information on each with lots of pics of past trophies. Call WY game and fish. They can probably get you in touch with someone who can send you this publication. I just got mine in the mail a few days ago. It has a wealth of info.I think everyone who applied for WY got one of these. I can think of no other way they got my adress. Anybody else get one of these recently.

Good luck, Mike

Just received mine yesterday. Also figured the same thing. I put in this last year. No other reason for them to have my contact info.

Done a deer hunt with the Double R Ranch (Butte Creek Outfitters) The first year I went in 06 was really good and got a really nice deer. I went again this year for deer and antelope and get my self really nice deer again and a REALLY nice speed goat. The goat should score in the low or mid 80's. I had such a great time that i just got off the phone and booked another hunt for 2010 with a buddie of mine. The late hunt in Hard Pan is the best because the deer are just coming in the rut.Oh yea, there is about a 4 hour horse back ride from the trai head to the camp we hunt out of. You can find them under DOUBLE R RANCH ON THE WEB.
