I passed on several bigger then him. He had a huge body and little itty bitty antlers. lol
Do you think he would of gotten any bigger??

I do not believe he is an old buck. Hard to judge only by that pic, but he has a short eye to nose measurement, and no mass. A long life is still the best guarantee for larger racks.

He was with a bigger buck. The bigger buck's body was a lot smaller and looked young to me. I guess when I euro him i'll have to look at his teeth.

It's a done deal, your thoughts were in the right place, and for sure your little girl is gonna grow up to be a dandy!! Congrats!!

I think you made the right choice. No G1s and is narrow. Ought to eat good. More hunters need to have the mind set that if your not in a trophy unit that it is best to help the genetics of the herd by killing a cull deer. Great job!

edit...and i'll add, even if you are in a trophy unit and don't find the big ol boy you're after, take the management buck instead of that 23" 165 inch 4x4 3 year old with potential.

I am not criticizing your choice to shoot him...but stating you are helping the herd, by shooting a deer with a lesser rack (management buck), is absurd! Since when did rack size add to herd health? A big strong bodied deer, has genetics that may help the herd. Score only matters to humans.

I understand your thoughts! The girls wanted some more jerky. T I let the bigger buck with more potential live and made my girls happy at the same time. win win

from what I can tell from the picture and the info you gave he is a 3 year old buck.
Dont know where you were hunting or what unit. Maybe the buck that had a larger rack was a 2 year old 4 point.

Archery is a year round commitment!!

I wouldnt worry about what the age or size was, to me you made an incredible memory with your girls. That's what it's all about right there, looks like you have a future hunter in the pics.. Makes a daddy proud, I've got 2 girls that can't wait to go out with me next year, and to be honest... I can't wait to have my little dollies on the hill with me...

Make'n memories and smiles is what counts. No score, or body size can be that...

Great pics, great post.
