I am from michigan and i am trying to set up a non guided muley/antelope hunting trip. me and my buds are avid hunters of all species especially whitetail. i have obtained landowner lists, contacted some of them, and have ordered maps and pretty much everything else. i got our applications and ready to fill them out. The problem i am having IS where do i apply for? i have contacted landowners west of casper and they said it was good hunting for both animals. i talked to a guy in wheatland, SE WY and he said antelope good, deer bad. i have been rackind my brain about all this and dont know what to do. Is up by sheridan the best chance or farther east by alladin better. I just dont know what region let alone section to apply for to give us the best odds of getting a nice muley and antelope. Any information would be greatly appreciated from a fellow confused hunter.

eastern wyoming is fine if you want to pay a fortune to landowners. and are content with average antelope and deer. If I were you I would look towards western wyoming, bigger antelope and deer and much better scenery. I live in southwestern wyoming and could help you out. let me know if there is anything I can do.

Aaron- I have found that sometimes when a landowner says there aren't very many deer....FOR THEM there aren't many deer. We still have seen plenty of deer TO US. In years past they may have been used to seeing 20 bucks a day and now they only see 8. Where I hunt in Ca., if I see 4 bucks a day, that is a record!!! I would ask specific questions about how many deer you may see in a day instead of if there are a lot or not.

+1 on what Wiszard said because that is so true,

I have found if you go the extra mile it's Never crowded.

i really really appreciate the responce. this guyt said we could hunt 50 miles west of casper which i believe is area 89 and it would cost 100 dollars per man with a license. we would hunt a 20000 acre section and other spots as well if we didnt get that particular one. he said to apply for areas 89 90 and 34 and we would be good to go. According to the landowners paper i got it is a cattle ranch. im warry cus it seems really cheap to hunt that much land where i realize that that isnt much land in the grand scheme of things. we are willing to pay within reason considering we dont want guides. if you yourself can hook us up or just give a name of a town i would b more than thankful. im just a guy who completely wrapped up with hunting big game and being in the real gods country. ive been to colorado hunting elk in the flattops where it is completely natural, cutting all wood by hand, living in a tent, and i absolutely loved it. we do a tent camp here in michigan in the u.p. every year and there is no electricity. i just trying to let ya know how and what kind of guy i am at the age of 30. if you can help anymore im gona listen because im doin this whole trip on my own on a whim.

thank u steve for a reply. im gona call the one guy back that had any promise and ask him them questions specifically. to sum it up he said 100 bucks per guy per license and we would hunt 20000 acres which seems kind of crazy to me if it was any good at all. its a cattlefarm and just seems to go to be true if there were any big bucks around which we know if it was that good it would cost a lot more i think. im just looking for a region, section, or town to help my studies along. this particular one is in central WY just below the big horns i guess. im just very weiry of the situation. im just like any other hunter, the bigger they are the better it is especially out of a tent camp. once again thank you and any more info. would be greatly appreciated

All of those areas the guy listed are very good areas, with lots of potental. I know of one buck this year that came from 89 that was in the 190's. plus many oters from the past, same with 34. the thing to think of in this area for a tent hunt is it can be very windy.

the thing your not mentioning is how many points you guys have going in on the drawing, some of those deer areas are tough to draw and most of the antelope areas take at least a point or two, also you could be more specific on the type of country you prefer to hunt

I am kind of in the same boat. A Michigan guy who has been doing some research. I may have access to a good ranch South of Cheyenne. I hunted it a few years ago and 5 of us were tagged out within the first two days. Not sure if i can get back on that. Even if I can not sure if I can afford it. This time I would be going by myself if I did deer.

I am sitting with 3 elk points and 2 deer points going into 2009. I will most likely be passing on elk and just buying a PP point again for elk. I would like to find an area where you need PP's for deer and the hunting is good. If PP's are needed to draw a tag I would guess the hunting should be better.
