The king of the mountain, I guess antler size isn't everything.

Cool pics man, thx for posting them. You know, you'd think the bigger buck wouldv'e stood his ground. I've seen that before myself but never got any pics... especially that good.

Thx again for posting them.

The buck with the smaller antlers is the "bigger" buck. Woulda kicked the ##### out of that other buck, has him by 50 pounds at least.

I don't think deer are aware of the exact size of their antlers. Sure there is a difference between a two point and a four point and they can tell that, but when two comparable bucks are paired up, body size, swagger and aggresiveness are what counts. I once saw a huge bodied two-point, run off a nice 24 inch 4pt. The two point was older, bigger and stronger and his antlers paled in comparison to the 4 pt (though he was a big 2pt) but it didn't matter. He was tougher and meaner and he bred the most does. That area was pretty littered with big bodied two points for quite a while afterwards

Great pictures!! The smaller antlered buck has a huge body and it looks like he has a bad attitude.

That bigger buck was possible a spike in his younger days so he has a bad attitude from getting his butt kicked.

I was up on a Mountain in the Grey's River area back in 1992 on a 3 day back pack-in. The next morning I watched a tall 3X3 pushing a decent 4x4 Buck around like it was a runt. I was down hill about 125 yards and the other two guys I was with said, "don't shoot the first buck you see" as it was my first time in the Greys area. Big mistake, never seen another buck the whole time I was there after we leaft that Mtn. Oh well, had fun watching the big 3x3 whoop the 4x4 in a hillside battle.

Im certainly no expert on judging age, but it seems like the big bodied deer is older by a few years.

The littler bodied deer has some amazing potential. He is not broken up and he just "walked" away from a fight. I wonder if there is some respect and smartness going on there on the animals part. In a few years, that youngster will be the king, and he just might know it.

While these two were busy squaring off...A little dink forky slipped in the back door and "got some"...

Very cool set of pics....

that little guys a lot cuter too maybe he was hitting on the bigger bodied one!!

Interesting looking at the difference in the hair on the two bucks. The hair standing on end is supposed to (and does) make the one buck look bigger than he actually is. The smaller antlered buck (big hair)is obviously looking for a fight, and the bigger antlered one (flat laying hair) is obviously not. Do you think that it may have something to do with timing and hormones? In two weeks is the first going to be skinny, worn out, and much less aggressive while the second one will then be all "rutted up" with swollen neck and hair on end and such?
I'm not stating that this is the way it is, just an idea.
Notice that the one's neck is really swollen while the other's is not. It doesn't even look like the bigger antlered buck's glands (on the inside of his back legs) are wet. I am curious what the date is on these pictures.
Great Pics for sure.

The smaller antlered buck looks a lot older and significantly bigger bodied to me. The hair on his face makes him look like an ugly old bugger. The younger buck had a nice cheater, but I just couldn't get a good picture of it. That buck has potential. These were taken Dec. 16th. There was a spindly, but wide 3 point in the area too, but the small racked old guy was definely running the show. I wonder if anybody would shoot that old buck on a Book Cliffs LE tag?
