Anyone know of any captive mule deer???

Not sure how you define captive, but there are places like Thiokol in Utah and Rocky Flats in CO where they are pretty much captive. But getting permission to take pics might be a whole nother issue. (Would Santa Rosa Island be captive??

Bear World in Idaho has some.

I've been to the deer farm in Williams (by Flagstaff). It was cool, but I don't recall seeing a single mule or whitetail deer--made up mostly of exotics.

Thanks for your replys guys. Browtine, do they have any bucks up there at bear world???

My photos are more for sculpting anatomy than anything else.

I believe they do, however, they saw them off for "safety".. I actually think they saw them off so that guys from Colorado won't jump the fence and pick up there sheds :)

alot of deer out on the wintering grounds around Dove Creek Co or just across the border around Eastland Ut. They are in the fields every night.

This post seems a little strange. If you just want to look at photos of deer for sculpting why not just get them from someone. There are many profesional photographers on this site that do amazing work! If you just look two inches to your left you will see several photos done by Tony Bynum that are beautiful. There are litterally thousands of awesome deer photos on the internet.

I respect anyone that want to do it themselves but photographing tame deer isn't exactly "do it yourself"

NSH, like I need your respect..... nor do I need to explain myself to you. I've talked to Tony, he knows what I'm looking for.

Thanks Brandon, cutting the horns off doesn't matter to me as I don't need photos of antlers. I'll check them out.

Bucktaxi- I didn't mean to offend you. I guess i maybe could have worded it differently.

I was just suggesting that it would be a lot easier to google deer photos then it would be to travel across states to photograph deer.

Maybe I am wrong, but I think Bucktaxi wants some different reference photos for taxidermy. In any case, I have no idea who has captive mule deer, but there are deer at Antelope Island which will allow you to get within 10-20 feet.

Estes Park, Co always has some wintering in peoples yards and easy to take pics of .

Hey everyone, thank you for all of your replys. I have found some mulies at a zoo in Pocatelo, ID that the people at Bear World turned me onto. I've made arangements to go there at the end of the week. Thanks Brandon/droptine for the heads up there.

I need to take "zoo" type photos because I need reference of leg positions on bedded bucks for a sculpture. In almost all wild photos I've seen or taken of bedded deer the legs are hidden in the grass or snow.

Thanks again, Steve
