So what I want to know is how many of you were archery hunters who now decided to go all three because of the loss of our statewide hunt? I know that I am one of them; I decided that since I had to be limited I might as well be limited for all three hunts. So to all the southern rifle hunters who thought this would take pressure off YOUR deer I will see you out there three times as long as before!!!!!

As I am sure you know, you get to hunt dedicated two out of three years. You might hunt all three, but only take two deer. Almost the entire DH pool is in the South anyways. So, in reality, you are just one less Archer the Southern region has to deal with now.

The DH program is a good one, but I bet they fell below 10,000 this year. Anyone know?

Interesting. Wonder is he applied right? Maybe I was wrong and they will keep above Max. Will be interesting to see if they stay there or not as all the DH cycle through. You have to put in 40 hours now, instead of 24 . . .

I imagine they met the cap again. My hunting buddy and his boy put in, but neither one drew. It wasn't because they made a mistake in applying.

We put in as a goup and did not draw. Kind of bitter sweet. I don't get a guaranteed tag, but I don't have to worry about those 40 hours or the extra money.

Now that I am an outsider and bitter for not drawing; does anyone else have issue with DH getting there names put into a draw when they don't take a deer? They know they can only shoot two deer in three years when they join, they put a cap on the number who can join.....If you limit who can join and then give them rewards, isn't more like an exclusive club?

First you tell me I can't join and then you take a certain number of LE permits out of the draw and say I can't even have a chance at them. I could donate 100 hours and countless dollars this year, pass on every buck I see, but there is still a certain number of permits I can't even choose to try for....They need to look at that one again.

Exclusive Club? Maybe so. The reason they told you that you couldn't join (why you didn't draw) is because anybody that was in the program (who just finished their 3rd year) got first dibs on permits to stay in the program. So, essentially if everybody who was in the program wanted ot stay in the program, then nobody else could join. Fortunately some people didn't want to stay in, so there were a number of slots available.

This preference did not go before the RACs and did not get any public input. The Wildlife Board decided that at the Board meeting. This may not be a big deal, because I havn't heard many complaints about it. However, I think that proposal should have at least gone to the RACs.

Everyone who applied in our group just finished the third year of the program. Didn't help us any. Oh well, guess I'll hunt coyotes next fall instead.

My dad and I applied for the dedicated hunter program this year for the northern region and we both drew. I've got my eye on a couple of monsters near the area I live and figured the dh program would be the way to go to maximize my opportunity at one of these bucks. The service hours are no big deal as I get 5 days off work every two weeks and 2 days off between the two weeks. work schedual works great for hunting as I do not have to use all my vacation. looking forward to a fun year already.

I've been a dedicated Mule Deer Hunter since 1968 guess thats why there aren't many left.....J/K...don't live in Utah so I don't know what you talking about...please explain.

Utah has a program which allows those who want to join, the opportunity to hunt deer during all three weapon seasons. Archery, Muzzy, Rifle. You are allowed to harvest only 2 deer in a 3 year span. Also, starting this year you need to perform 40 hours of approved service projects, or you can buy 30 hours at $20/hr, and then work off the rest. I'm on my second round with it, and for the most part I think it's a good program. I only took one deer during my first 3 years. The reason I like it is it gives me the chance to hunt more. Plain and simple.

JLTD, Picking your region for archery is such a non issue I don't know why you and others choose to make it such a big deal. If you want to hunt the southern for the first two weeks just put in for it. You make it sound like your an anti hunter trying to wreck someone's hunt.

I opted out of the DH program this year, as did my brother. I found that instead of making the most of my time hunting, I hunted a couple of days on each. I have a lifetime license, so I can pick my region and it only costs more money to be part of the program.

I enjoyed the service hours but 40 hours at 20 bucks an hour buys tags in a couple of other states.

Sorry if you guys didn't draw, I did my best to make room.

This is my second year and I won't renew after my time is up. No way I'm doing 40 hours of service or coughing up the extra money to hunt deer in this state! WAFJ!...

I'm with Hazmat... Lifetime holder, so there's not a whole lot of incentive to do it again, although I did enjoy getting in my hours
