Does anybody have any info on the west vernon desert? public land, acess, trophy potential, and draw odds for three non residents with 12 points. Also what about the Book Cliffs?
I'm asking for a friend of mine, so if you need more info from me , give me a P.M.
Thanks, Doug.

Vernon requires A LOT of scouting to be very successful. If you don't have lots of time to scout then i would look more towards the books.

Vernon will produce one or two giants every year but for the most part it has been shot out. The first few years it was reopened they killed quite a few really nice bucks but since then they have over sold tags and giants are few and far between.

Vernon for the most part is open sagebrush flats and pinion/juniper forests.

The books on the other hand has very diverse habitat and a much larger deer population. A huge buck on the books is no easy task but finding decent four points is relatively easy.

Another thing to consider if you are applying 3 non residents is that the book cliffs issues more tags. In utah only 10% of tags go to non residents. If you applied with a group and there were only two tags left your application will be un successful.

+1. I personally wouldn't burn 12 points on the books even as a non resident.

What type of hunt/buck are you looking for? And how much time can you afford to scout?

Really there is nothing wrong with the book cliffs if you want a hunt with lots of deer and a good chance at a 140-160 buck. If you are looking for anything over 160 you might want to look into a few other units.

2 questions guided or unguided and with 12 points why not the paunsugaunt looks like your only a year away from 100% draw odds.

1highpeak, sorry I was wrong, my friend checked his tag status, he only has ten points. He will go unguided, but a 160 class buck would suit him fine. ##### is 72, his brother is 69, and #####'s son is 43. They can hunt pretty hard, but the steep stuff is pretty hard for them. Their not that picky, but would like to see some good bucks and country.
Thanks, Doug.

Richard?!! I just wanted to see if it would let me spell....you know what....and it didn't! Too funny. Proceed!!
