Thanks for posting those. Wouldn't it have been great to be able to hunt in those days? Imagine the quality of the deer back then. Also, look at the equipment they are using! Just think if they had the equipment we have now? Think about how many huge bucks they'd have killed then. Those days are long gone....

Cool pics. I would love to hear some of thier stories. I would venture to guess they could pick and choose without any worries of tagsoup. Loved the last 2 pictures the best.

I wonder how many points it took to draw??? LOL Jason

amazing how many giant bucks were around then

I love the pictures. There has been some real strokers to hit the dirt over the years.

Great pics! Thanks for posting

anyone know what kind of gun that is in the picture 5th from the bottom. Looks like a lever action 30.06? My grandfather used a similar one, a winchester, when he lived in St George back in the 30 and 40s. Brings back a lot of memories.

We had one of those, it was a 30 Remington. I had to hunt with it a few times but don't really remember much about it other than i couldn't wait to get my own rifle. Ugly sucker but it shot and worked pretty good.

That second to last buck is gigantic. It looks like the face is decaying off the skull. I doubt that thing went to the dump. I'd love to see recent photos, or better photos, of that deer. Thanks for posting, Steve

Those are some fun pictures to see! I thought I was an old timer! It must have been great back then, those guys were hunting in their Sunday best suits! LOL Of course there were some brutes killed back then but at that time I'll bet the neighbors laughed about the guys that shot those monsters for meat deer! My father passed in 85' just short of his 76th birthday in all his days he never killed a 30" buck, didn't want one until he was about 65. Does and yearling bucks were the target in those days! I remember bumper to bumper traffic all the way from Spanish Fork canyon to North Temple and State street with cars and trucks loaded with deer on display. Back then (in the 50' and 60's) deer season was the biggest event in Utah, it was the main topic in every work shop, sports store and high school in the state. Nearly all your neighbors were deer hunters and everyone was excited to compare stories as the hunters returned home. It was pure hell to come home empty ( in some way, you felt like less of a man) Today, not many folks care about deer hunting, of all my young high school buddies I'm probably the only one left still hunting! Sometimes I wish I could give up and play golf! It's a demanding sport especially if your goal is to take good bucks!
WOW! I really do miss what I call the good old days too! THANKS for the pics!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-11-09 AT 03:33PM (MST)[p]Awsome, i wonder how many axels they busted on them trucks!

Those are all very cool!

I often wonderd about the suit and tie, you see that alot in old photo's. i wonder if most game was taken on a saturday and the pic's got taken on a suday in thier go to meeting git up?

Those are some neat pics....6x7 needs to clue us in...The same guy is in a lot of the photos. I asked a lot of the same questions you guys are asking about the old photos to my grandfather quite a awhile ago with our old family hunting pics. It was a main event to kill an old nice buck like that so....they dressed in their Sunday best for the picture taking event. As for braking axles on the cars...they were built a hellava lot tougher than now and had positive traction and could go about anywhere a horse and wagon could go High-narrow tires is always better traction. Plus they didn't go tear assin' around in the dingweeds trying to outrun another hunter because of hunting pressure. It looks like Lakeview Oregon Country to me..
The Rifle is a Remington Model 8...it was caliber ed in .25,.30,.32 and 35 Remington. I have my Great grandfather's .32 and it was built in 1906....I have my Grandfather's Model 1895 Winchester Lever Action 30.06 it was built in 1921. My Grandfather died in 1979 at the age of 76...I still miss him...Here's a pic of the guns.

those pictures are awesome I wish i lived back then I think it would have been fun. Love the second from the bottom great mass and palmating. on_target

Its great to see pictures of the past. Makes you want to go back to basic to hunt these bucks. No camo, No RVs, Just you your dog and a tent!!!Oh cant forget some "juice" for the cold nights.

I'm not trying to be too prudent, but the rifle in the upper picture is actually a Remington 81 Woodmaster. You can tell the difference in that the Remington Model 8 was originally designed for military use. The model 81 has the sporterized pistol grip where as the model 8 has the straight grip like yours. The 81 was mostly chambered in .300 Savage, and I believe the .250-3000. I have one in .300 savage. Great shooter.

Thanks for sharing.
