If you dont get Eastmans Hunting Journal in the mail box, you should buy the february mule deer issue, it's a great read with some great stories about some awesome bucks and great guys. . .

"Roadless areas, in general, represent some of the best fish and wildlife habitat on public lands. The bad news is that there is nothing positive about a road where fish and wildlife habitat are concerned -- absolutely nothing." (B&C Professor, Jack Ward Thomas, Fair Chase, Fall 2005, p.10).

Thanks Harry. Glad you like it. Its a hellova buck for sure. Monster main frame and enough extras to give him a great look. Doesn't hurt that he has heavy bases and a mid-30's spread either. Pic was taken a couple of years ago and he didn't make it past the brutal winter last year.

That is one reason I do not
recieve Eastmans any more,
they would come out on the
shelves before I would receive
mine, I don't think it should
be that way.

Mine was in my box on monday. . . it all depends on where you live and the difficulties with mail delivery and then where the issues actually end up on the shelves. . .

Anyhow, it it's a good muledeer issue nonetheless . .

Got mine in the mail yesterday Wed. the 11th, my hunting buddy lives about 5 miles away always gets his about 1 week later than I do!

GO HEELS!

I'm a subscriber and think its a pretty good magazine but you do bring up an interesting point about the magazine hitting news stands before it comes in the mail. I wonder if that is standard practice in the industry. It seems to make sense that they might sell a few more issues before the subscribers get theirs and saturate the distribution. I don't fault them for it, just an observation. I never know when mine is going to come.

Just so you guys know, there is no attempt to try and sell more magazines by letting it hit the newstands early. The magazine is printed, the mailing is done bulk and is controlled by USPS at a dfferent rate and type of distribution than standard first class mail that we all use. Also the magazines that you see on the newstands are put out through a distributor sub-contractor and that timing is completely discretionary depending on when they get their shipments from the actual printer which is back on the East Coast.

Either way, some great bucks and some well written stories by the contributors. We are pretty lucky to have a bunch of pretty good magazines out there as opposed to just the big 3 of yesteryear.

Just got mine today. That is an incredible deer. Well done. I haven't read the story but look forward to it. The prize for the cover story doesn't suck either!!

Just be happy you got your issue in the mail.
One of these days, it'll be, "Obama's Journal".
Bulk mail takes awhile. It's not Eastman's fault.
Call, email them and tell them to update their
publishing date, just for you.
Take advantage of your freedom, while you still
have it.

man, who cares! they have the best magazine by far. also, the best show out there. quit nit picking and just enjoy it. if youre canceling your subsciptions becuase its not as timely as you would like, then youre losing out in my opinion.

Congrats on the cover.
I don't care if they come a few days late or not. Eastmans does a great job with HJ & BHJ and are the only ones worth keeping all the issues. Plus they have the best show on TV.

That's one awesome BUCK on the cover!! I really enjoy their magazines in fact i wish they would print two muledeer issues each year instead of just one.

I had mine last Monday in OHIO. It happens many times that magazines hit the stands before people get them. I'd see the SI swimsuit mag in stores before I'd get mine. Out west, I'd expect some small towns and bad weather could affect delivery. I wouldn't cancel my subscription over it. I enjoy them too much.

Got mine Thursday. Great magazine as always. Great stories and photos.
Is it just me, or does it seem like more hunters are English majors ? Some of the articles have so much "fluff" in them that it does not sound like a real hunter. Maybe their ghost writer should back off a little. Then again maybe it is just me.

There magazine is printed in Kentucky, and due to the recent ice storms in Kentucky they are running late. I live in Georgia, and called to check on mine a week and a half ago, and that is what I was told. I ended up getting mine last tuesday.

Just got mine yesterday here in NV. I don't mind when it comes as long as it comes. Love the magazine and the TV shows. I also ordered Mike's new antelope hunting book. Can't wait to start reading it!

LAST EDITED ON Feb-16-09 AT 10:30AM (MST)[p]I just came back to check this post, I'm kinda surprised that it started off into the ditch. . . Lets recap for second.

The guys at Eastman's put out a stellar mule deer issue, it's 100% DIY, all "normal/average" joes harvesting big bucks and we're kicking them in the shins for issues related to postage and mail service?

Recently I lost a weeks worth of mail, it was in a plane crash over the mountains of SW Montana. I got a piece of mail from that unfortunate flight, it was a half burned up letter tucked inside a USPS envelope. Along with the ragged remains of my mail, was a letter apologizing about the crash, the letter explained that the black fringed envelope was all that was salvageable, the pilot died. . . that's an extreme story, but whatcha-gona-do?

I think the content of the magazine is un surpassed. This issue in particular showcases guys like you and me. The DIY guys who were likely raised with mule deer on their dinner plates. The guys who love the wide open west, public lands hunting, and cagey, mature, mule deer bucks.

The Eastmans are holding true to their roots, you, me, the open land of the west and DIY hunting. . . Dont miss the buck though the trees!

I got mine late last week and was glad to see it!
One other thing not mentioned so far, those of us that are subscribers get the MRS section which the over the counter copies do not have, worth the wait to me.
:D

Eastmans puts out a great magazine even if it shows up late. I'm glad to have the opportunity to share my story and was pleasanlty surprised to see it show up in this issue. They are great guys and give the normal guys the chance to share their stories, not just a magazine full of guided hunts. Thanks to eastmans for going against the grain and putting out a great magazine. If it shows up late its still worth it.

I stopped subscribing to Eastmans for one reason.....I would get a couple of issues and then....nothing. This happened on two occasions. I'd subscribe, get a few issues and then they'd just stop coming. Shame on me for subscribing the second time!

I just finished Mikes new Antelope book, it's pretty good & i like the fact he throws a dvd in with the book. How many other publications do that!

I really enjoyed reading the article "MY Ole Friend" by Ryan Hatfield. I look forward to receiving the Eastmans' Journal, especially the Mule Deer issue.

I stopped subscribing several years ago after I asked Mike for a video he was giving away at an expo. He said "sign up for the Journal and its yours." I told him I'd just subscribed a few weeks before the show. He said "sign up for a 2nd year and I'll let you have one." I let him know that I'd actually subscribed for 2 years. He just sorta shook his head then turned away to converse with some other guy.

Don't get me wrong - I like the magazine. I just can't bring myself to renew the subscription after that fine gesture.

LOL - hey BS, I own your signature image! I just named that photo i posted, "BUCKSPY"

Whatcha think? Looks like a trade mark to me! LOL

I'll go along with buckspy for that killer photo. Love the first image as well. Some great stuff. I will also put my kudo's to eastmans. I really enjoy their bowhunting mag.

Buckspy,

Awesome deer man. Absolutely CONGRATULATIONS!!

I actually hunted the buck on page 45 during the archery season (three different occasions). He was a sight to behold in the velvet too. I was happy for Ted taking it, but I admit being a bit jealous that I couldn't get it done with a bow. What a stud buck.

I don't know if you read between the lines or not but I photographed the live buck on the cover and a good friend of mine Bill McEwen is the hunter who took the buck in the inset photo in the bottom corner. At any rate, both bucks are awesome with similar features.

Buckspy,

Guess I didn't catch that. I was probably just wishing I could have closed the deal on my deer. Anyway, nice shot and tell your friend nice deer for me ;>)
