Why is this region favored over the others?? Are there bigger bucks taken in this region over the others?? Are there more deer in southern utah compared to the other regions?? I would like peoples opinions on why so many people favor this region over others. I am a DH and choose to hunt the NER to get away from the crowds if at all possible, but I grew up hunting southern region for 10 years and all ten deer I took were spikes or two points I rarely did see the big one, I also havent hunted southern in several years. My two biggest deer were taken in Northeast. So what do you guys think??

I think that alot of people see the potential for a big deer in the southern over NE or Northern Region because more of the best units in the state to hunt Limited entry hunts deer are Nephi south. I think there may be more land that is not private as well, but I am not sure of that because I live and grew up in Southern Utah. I know for a fact of some very good deer hunters that take awsome deer most years off the Central Unit and have seen recent pictures of real slammers off the NE Region. I dont know if the ones off the NE were on private land or not but I know the ones off Central my freinds have killed have been on public land. We have killed some decent deer on the southern but I will tell you the truth, I only hunt it cause its where I live. If I lived in Spanish Fork I would hunt above Spanish Fork or if I lived in Bountiful thats probably where I would hunt, I think its the only way to scout and stay on the deer year round is to hunt your own backyard. I know I will catch alot of crap saying that but its the way I feel. Just a side note, IF any of you out there in MM Land are saying I dont want you to hunt Southern because you dont live here YOUR WRONG, if this is where you want to hunt BRING IT ON!!! But please kill the bigger deer and leave all the DAMN Spikes and 2 pts!

I have hunted the southern unit for most of my life. My advice, which may not be of any value is to stay in the NER. I think you killed all the big bucks in the ten years you were down here. Besure to tell everybody you know how bad it is down here.

I think that one of the reasons that people choose to hunt the South is because it is accesible to everyone. There are roads everywhere and that is how the masses like to hunt. Most people just won't get off the quad if they don't have to. Also a lot of people have success doing this.

Southern region is where its at. around cedar city and around enterprise there are 28 to 30 inch bucks running everywhere. and after dark they are on mainstreet. Dont let them bs you everyone needs to put in for the southern region!!!!

I think a lot of people hunt southern is because they are to lazy to do their own home work and scout for big bucks in there home area. So if they come to a place where everyone is pushing the deer around they may have better luck shooting something from the road.I live in southern Utah and i will tell you that years ago maybe the deer ran main street in Enterprise but not anymore.People have come to town and shot the first thing they see with horns.(If they do not shot it the guy 100' away from them will! right?)
I was born and raised in northern Utah and have seen just as many big bucks as i have in Southern Utah, but you have to leave the truck and put forth effort to see them. (There are not as many people to move the deer around.)When i hunt now i do hunt Southern Utah unless i have the time to take the family north. My fourteen year old daughter should get a deer tag this year and the other night we where talking, she told me that if it's not at least a four point she does not want to shot it.( could be she wants to show the boys up.)but i think that's pretty cool she has no problem letting the little ones grow up so maybe next hunt she can shoot a big one. I wish i would have done that at a younger age. but i am guilty too. I don't believe that my thoughts pertain to everyone. That's what i think for what its worth.

I live in Enterprise and I can guarantee there aren't 27 inch bucks on mainstreet. I did almost hit a spike last summer. The closest I hunted to Enterprise this year on the rifle hunt was about 15 miles away. Too many hunters already in town for me. Now if you get out of town there aren't quite as many.

Yep there all right, big bucks every where in the southern units, even the centralt, But the North Eastern is piss poor at best I would stay away from here....I mean there. Just piss poor.

Go west and south where the bucks are big and stand right off the road and let you shoot them...

I hear if you dont kill a 25"+ buck in southern your not a good hunter. Thats jsut what I here.:)

I was taught eastern washington county had the best deer hunting in the state when I first started hunting. I don't know where my old man came up with that as I don't think he ever hunted more than 100 miles outside of the county. Since then I've spent a lot of time in northern, central, & southern. There isn't a mountain in Utah that doesn't have a big buck on it. I love hunting the northern region and I don't eel a bit bad when I don't draw a southern tag. I like the southern region because there are places where you can go all day long without seeing a no trespassing sign.

I see the most deer where I spend the most time.
