Unit 35, 4x4, 26 wide, right at 170 B&C. Hunted hard 5 days. Saw 6 smaller bucks in 3 days scouting. This was the first buck I saw during season. Snow finally fell and that helped a lot. Mark.

OregonCoast nice buck! Good looking pics. I used to hunt CO and it seemed we always got snow. Thanks for sharing. quest

Looking at the picture I know right where you were!

Too bad that GMU had to get ruined in 2005 with all the hype and publicity. Seemed like the whole State of Utah showed up that year

Great looking sagebrush flats for sure.
Very nice buck, it really great to hunt in the snow.

Buck numbers were waaaay down this year. Even 2007 was a slower year on that unit, and 2008 was super tough. I know several guys that hunted it this year and didn't see a single buck in several days of hard hunting. Maybe now all us Utah guys can find the next "Second Choice Sleeper" and go ruin it, eh? ;-)

Congrats on a nice buck. It sounds like you kept after it, put in the time, and beat the odds in the end.

Thanks for the compliments.
I hunted Unit 35,36,45 with my brother in law who had been in the unit in '07. He said there was 3x the pressure in '07 and he and his wife filled their tags with respectable bucks from the roads. In '08, they cut tags and hunting pressure was great. Few camps! But, there was also few deer. In '07, my bro in law saw lots of deer and many bucks in the days scouting prior to the opener. '08 was dismal. We worked really hard to fill two tags in '08. I see now how much snow is a huge factor. Without it, I may not have seen my buck. He had come out of the high country (probably checking does) and I glassed him up as he was working his way back up the sage ridges..........heading toward higher aspen thickets.
One of my most rewarding hunts to date. Thanks, Mark.

Very Beautiful Buck and Very Healthy Looking!
Great looking country too.
Congratulations!

REDDOG: I think you are close.......without looking at my maps I am not sure what the formal name is where I shot the buck....I recall seeing Alkalai on the map though.

Great buck coming out of that unit, congrats. Maybe tags will be more limited because the genetics have been there, just too many tags.
Thanks for sharing.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-26-09 AT 04:14PM (MST)[p]Nov. 5th...........3rd Season. I really wish I would have gotten a tooth to age him. The guy where I checked him in for CWD said he thought it was about 4 1/2 year old. Only had dark colored teeth. Hardly any tooth wear, had a slight concave curvature in the bottom row of teeth. Mark.

Nice Buck, Congrats!! I'll bet he looked really nice out there on that hillside highlighted by all the snow and low brush around him. Nice sight indeed!!

Great photos.Good looking buck !
I've hunted there many times and it can be very frustrating, especially without weather. Some years there will be hunters everywhere and other years you have the place pretty much to yourself. You did good for such a lousy year.
