Does any one on this mule deer forum have any experience or knowledge of Dan Herrera of Trophy Chasers who always advertises on this site. If so please tell us how you feel he runs his operation. Thanks

I'd say call him and try and form your own opinion. I've heard good and bad. I talked to him just yesterday and everything seemed okay to me.

I haven't heard anything good so far. If you want to be taken advantage of, or overcharged for a hunt then he's your man.

Appleman, I talked with Dan several years. He was very prompt in returning my call. But in talking with him I felt I was talking to a used car salesman. He would say, We killed a 362 5/8 Bull here and a 368 9/16 Bull (or whatever) over there and so on and so on. Maybe Dan is just a very excited, high strung person and thats just how he talks. I can say this because I am the same way sometimes and if you don't know me very well, some people say I come off that way. But in his ADS it's always,THIS IS THE BEST TAG OR HUNT IN THE WHOLE WORLD AND IF YOU MISS IT YOU WILL DIE!!LOL.

I have talked to many outfitters over the past few years and none a them talk in the manner Dan does. I think his style is the HARD SELL, the problem with that is when you sell yourself as THE BEST AND THE GREATEST it's hard to live up to YOUR OWN HYPE and people are very dissapointed when the reality doesn't live up to THE HYPE. It is, called hunting not killing.

Notice how I used the CAPS like Dan does in his ads?

Anyway, I would check his references and go from there. I have in the past ask Outfitters for a few contacts that were unsuccessful and that had a bad experience and were totaly unsatisfied with them and see if their complaints are legit or just unhappy people, that Jesus Christ Himself couldn't please.

Good Luck to You and keep us informed on what you find out. I think we all would like to know.

Joe

Hes a FLAKE! 3 years in a row with experiences that were shocking.. Thats all i will say.

He is an advertiser on this site right? Of course I don't know the guy and have not hunted with him but I have had nothing but good experiences with all of the other outfitters that advertise on this site. These posts surprise me. I will say that in my experience, where there is smoke, there is fire. I wish you luck.

he has been posted on many times, never ends up being in Dan's favor, but after a while the post gets nuked, so instead of looking at posts and finding out he sucks, it gets nuked and we have to this all over again. Obviously he is a big paying advertiser, which isn't right. If you advertise, but don't provide a great service, founder, I am not sure he should be so protected. To sum up all the other previously nuked posts, be cautious with Dan. He is a salesman.

Our group has hunted with trophy chasers for last few years and have been happy, prior to hunting with his outfitters we had hunted with Chad Smith on a few hunts paying a lot of money with marginal success but in all fairness to Chad we had seen nice animals taken in camp we just couldn't afford to hunt with him anymore. We found trophy chasers on this site and he offered resonably priced hunts with nice animals on his web.Dan has always gone the extra mile for us and has treated us more than fairly. He does tend to get a little exited when talking Big Animals though,This year our party hunted mexico with dan and wasn't sure what to expect down there and we were a little nervous.I took my 1st mule deer over 200" on the 1st day of the hunt my whole party also took big muleys. All of his outfitters have worked hard for us over the years and we have built friendships with them although we have not always all been successfull everyyear we have been treated well an have had ample opportunity's at game, guess that's hunting You look at trophy's web you will see a number of our pictures listed over the years and hope to be there again soon,Seems to me lots of folks like to trash talk the outfitters on this site? Hunting is just that hunting but that's what keeps us coming back. These outfitters work hard for not much pay seems they deserve more respect than they get on this site.If you have hunted long enough you will no is not easy to always taking big animals consistantly. Our group is also guilty of missing a time or two.I suggest talking to referances before passing any judgement on any outfitters.

Listen, no one really comes on this site with the intention of wanting to hurt Mr Herrera or his business. Maybe not everyone is unhappy with his services but it is not a coincidence that so many are so dissatisfied with Mr. Herrera. I have done business with him and won't allow myself to do business again. It is a shame because does come across as a kind of guy that you could like. JMO

+3 i won't buy from him again!
This should be enough reference for anyone...actually two bad ones should put up the red light to any paying hunter...I have been on plenty of guided hunts and every one I went on, that had a bad reference...The hunt sucked!

I have bought landowner tags from dan for over 3 years in New Mexico and Colorado for myself and friends,I have never had any problems! Dan has sent me to areas we would have never found on our own and we have taken Great Bucks and Bulls as a result! I have bought landowner tags for a lot less money than other tag brokers that I otherwise may not have been able to afford! This man let me hunt one of his private ranches for free to take a bull for my father on his last hunt before he passed. So you whining non-hunting jealous donkeys keep buying over priced vouchers from the other brokers and leave the good tags for us! By the way my pictures are all over his site with bucks taken from his vouchers my name is also on the referance page lets see if any of you have the balls to call me.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-19-09 AT 07:27PM (MST)[p]Hey BIGORGOHOME,

How can we take your word or at least know what your saying is gospel? You have all of '1' post on this site. Would you be DAN or a family member or even a close friend? I had heard from several others that Dan is very rough around the edges, used car salesman type? Makes a guy kinda wonder who/what he is? I was thinking about purchasing a hunt/tag, but, come on, the feedback doesn't look good and you come around waving the flag and all. AND ONE post to boot??????

For what it's worth...

paintman and bigorgohome have the same IP addresses listed. I am not a computer guy but two guys with almost no posts and the same IP addresses...

Must be a coincidence.

LMAO, these threads always crack me up. I'm suuprised the current 2 have lasted this long. I think last time Dan himself got on here and tried to smooth things over. I dont know the guy, but he sure has some un happy ex-customers.

Bigorgohme,
Im happy for you that you have your pictures up on the website. Im really happy for you. You have been nominated for an award that you probably made in your basement for yourself..

I personally do not think Dan is a "bad person", I just have hard facts that his operation sucks pretty bad.

This is Dan Herrera owner of Trophy Chasers Hunting,It has been brought to my attention that there are a few hunters not happy with my handling of my landowner voucher's.Let me tell you this every person who has purchased a landowner voucher has recieved thier tag's.The way the new laws in Colorado read us Tag Brokers may not handle the vouchers they must be sent out by the landowners. Many of the landowners I deal with are also busy ranchers so mailing out the vouchers in a timely fashion is not always thier highest priority, But they all get there in plenty of time.I also find it ironic that the people complaining are the one's who have purchased tags in the eleventh hour at a discounted rate and I have jumped through hoops to find them tags. One of the people Ron Barthalamew who stated he had to meet the landowner in Montrose to get the tag failed to mention he bought the voucher day's before the season,He also failed to mention the check he wrote for the four vouchers bounced! ( I can post a copy of the NSF check) I then had to have him tracked down to collect.Im am not going to get into a pissing match with any clients on MM,But I wont sit back and have cowards take shots at me with out the facts. We sell over 200 vouchers per years and can't gauranty any hunters will have success on any hunts in any state after this is hunting! Those hunters who want a gauranty may want to turn to the High Fence as an option as I dont consider them true hunters anyway,These vouchers are a privledge and we should feel fortunate to be able obtain them. I do not gauranty success on any of my outfitters guided hunts Drop camps or vouchers sales. We are paying for an opportunity to harvest an animal and for many the whole experiance of the hunt. There are always a few who will complain to the state about the vouchers and will eventually ruin it for the the rest of us.I have a number of hunters who purchase tags from me every year that I appreciate thier business although they are not always successful on all thier hunts We try to help them as much as possible. Many of my hunters can be seen on my landowner tag page in multible years with Trophy Animals.I will continue to cater to my client's needs offering the Best prices on tags and offering as much information as possible.Below is a list of some of my loyal Clients feel free to call them. This is my position on this,I will not be posting anymore ads on this forum,If you have a problem with our services Man Up and call me on my cell @ 925-989-4288 and we can resolve the problem dont hide behind a forum. I apologize to the hunters that had to wait on recieving thier tags,I try competivly price our vouchers as you can compare with others,I often trade voucher contacts with other brokers in order to obtain an additional tag for a party and help them as well. Here is a list of a few clients (Call or email for more we have pages) Jack Catron 406-580-1909/ Gary Caraciolli 831-262-5355/ Ty jensen 435-749-2467/Mike Davidson 307-254-1649/ Call or email for more.

paintman/bigorgohome/trophychaser - Dan,

I've never used your services, but I am a "computer guy". I find it interesting that all of the positive posts on this thread use the same general format and were by people with the same IP address:

Other IP information for user paintman

75.18.248.246

Other IP information for user bigorgohome

75.18.248.246

Other IP information for user trophychaser

75.18.248.246

Uh... since IP addresses are assigned to a network or individual PCs... I think we can all see the truth behind those so called positive posts!

LMAO.......

Nice call DDawg.

Hey, Brian what do you think?

I've read alot of statement entered upon this site as to Mr. herrera. I have been purchaseing land owner vouchers for about 5 years. In the beginning I did all the research I could from many sources. Upon completing this I decided upon an area & season I felt to be the most promising after which I contacted several brokers Alan Pennington, Dan Herrera, Garth, Ben Brown & anyone else that may of had access to a tag. I found all brokers to have there own opinion as to which area is & was the best of all. They were all saleman of sorts. I have purchaesd tags from several of them & a tag or two from the landowners directly. some years we killed very nice animals some years not so much. Purchasing these tags are a great way to hunt some very good areas as we all know. It is imperitive that each hunter does the home work neccesary to determine the best area. I've read that Dan is like a car
salesman of sorts, Maybe he is but we still buy auto's from a car saleman I believe. I believe all these gentleman provide a valuble service to hunters. A I know first hand Dan is as honest as any other broker in every way. I have mailed him thousands of dollars on his word & he like others have always furnished us with the tags we chose. he has also provided myself & my friends with countless maps to help us find animals we felt worthy of these tags. In the years of hunting many of these areasI find most hunters believe it possible to ride around on a 4 wheelers and shoot a B&C animal, not likely. I would just like to say this pick an area yourself & then try to find a tag buy it from whoever you wish I will continue to Choose Dan Herrera for all the reasons no one else thinks he posesses, good for me. the fewer of these brokers there are the higher cost will be for certain. good luck & maybe its time to find one of the real issues hunters face like gun control to complain about istead of a fellow hunter whom is trying to make a living doing something he loves. what a great country!

if post #26 don't tell you something about his character and honesty and you'll still do business with him then more power to ya. your day to get burned is probably coming.

You guys worry about all the IP's and computer lingo I will worry about hunting tags and hunting and past business dealings.
You have choices also. But you should give up trying to be investigators from your desk and judging people you do not know. There are only a few brokers & for some reason they all require you to send them money in advance for tags they may or may not have access to. All except for Guess who yep you guessed it. Mr. Herrera. Why is that? investigate that, why does everyone else want 1k 6 months prior to the landowner drawing. brokers are brokers you buy a tag and they deliver it. simple. I've yet to hear where anyone anywhere has not got there tags. Correct if I am wrong please. Alan once kept 6k for almost 4 month before Dan found the tags. But thats the business and I did not run to the world and claim that i was wronged. That's business. Not alway perfect. Good day

Wapitijack,

I usually don't post on things like this. However you are upset others are posting negative information about someone who you obviously know, but then you turn around and slam the other tag brokers for requiring a deposit? You can't have it both ways. There are several other tag brokers in the business, however I have not seen a post about them in a negative manner in the last several years I have been watching MM's. Alan is not in the tag broker business any longer, what purpose does it serve to slam him in a post. Just wondering.

Rich

Wapitijack,

Dan does require or take 1k deposits. I spoke to him last week about tags that he clamied he would get not what he might get.

I don't believe that was a slam. As Alan I would consider a friend it was on to make a reference as to how the business is far from perfect.

It's apparent you all know more of this business than I. Dan is the only broker that has never charged me a deposit is all I'm saying. I've only purchased a dozen tags or so from an aray of brokers. enjoy! I'm only in this to hunt.
