CO Unit 201 - buck quality?

After doing a few years of research on 201 and calling the Meeker DOW office, leaving messages for the biologist (who hasn't returned them yet - I know they are over-worked), I decided to ask some of the great resources here on MonsterMuleys.

I know this area is managed for quality deer (and elk). I have enough points to possibly draw deer this year, but am wondering what kind of quality is in the area?

I understand that access is pretty good. I've not walked in the unit yet, but have studied maps and if I did draw, would put in the miles to scout it. I'd like to know the type of hunt guys have had in that unit, deer #'s, etc. Other hunt pressures, road quality, genetics (including trash points), etc.

Thanks much!

I have spent a little time in this unit during the summer and early fall. In regard to deer numbers...they are relatively low. Hunting pressure....extremely low. Road quality..bring 4 sets of chains! Genetics...mostly typical frame and you'll likely have to view quite a few bucks to find anything over 170ish. 201 is a relatively small unit and is fairly open country with some steeper terrain. There are a few chunks of private that cut off access to public land.

I hunted it about 6 years ago on a landowner tag. Went in pretty blind. Had some private I was supposed to be able to hunt and best buck I saw on it was maybe 150-160ish.

I had 2 days left and went blind into Public area up by the corner near WY and UT. Shot a 29.5" wide 3x4 buck that was pretty old.

I was real proud to get that buck considering.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'd welcome more as well.
