Thanks for all the input. I have always been more comfortable with Leupold, just thought I'd test the water to see if the competition had actually developed a competitve product.

I know they ALL look "clear" at the range, and work great for "varmint", but it seems the Leupold stands above the Nikon as far as reliability and durability.

Will continue with what I know, despite the VX III now going at $600....a littlehigh in my opinion, but better than the cost of regret

I like the optics better in the Monarch over the VX111 but have not looked through the new VX3-but would trust a Leupold over any Nikon.

I have been running Zeiss Conquest on my last two rifles and love them but I would buy and trust any of these-take your pick:

Leupold VX3,VXL
Conquest
Bushnell elite 4200 or 6500
Sightron S3 Big sky
IOR valdada
And to a slighttly lesser degree than the above-
Burris Signature Select,Black Diamond or Euro diamond

I like 44mm objective scopes-thay offer more brightness without having do deal with the bulk and high mounting of 50mm scopes-Leupold does not offer one so I have been buying the 44mm Conquests. The Leupold VXL even with the crescent shape and lower mounting is still as bulky as regular 50mm scopes.

I have also owned 44mm Nikon Monarchs and Burris Signatures-never had a problem.

In my opinion the optics and eyebox in the Leupold VX111 was behind the times compared to the Monarch, upper end Burris and Zeiss scopes. We will see on the new VX3.

Not sure if you have looked in the classifieds yet but a guy is selling a swarovski 3-10x42 for 675.. Id pick that up over a VX3 anyday! Even though its used swarovski has a top noth warranty department. You can never go wrong there man!

Take a nikon and a leupold out side by side and the nikon has a better image. The leupold is actually slightly yellow. In my opinion, nikon has them beat with glass, but much fewer options. Try a night force, they are better than either.
