I don't live in Utah so I don't want to push my opinion on your state, but it sounds like there's getting to be more and more sentiment against the Utah deer hunt being a sea of orange, and killing all of the bucks before they reach 3 years old.
These roundabout ways of "increasing" the buck ratio like doe hunts and 5 day seasons only make for more of a zoo of hunters.
I assume those of you (us) that would like to see a much more conservative harvest must be out-voiced by thousands of people who want to continue hunting every year for a chance at a forked horn? Are there board meetings where you can express your opinions, do you guys attend them, and does the DWR respond?
As I said, I don't live there, but from what I've seen, the UT general hunts are downright scary. Utah could grow the biggest bucks anywhere if they would just cut back on the annual bloodbath. Henries are the perfect example. If some of the orange vested forked horn crowd ever hunted a good area in another state, I think they would realize what a pleasant experience it can be, and they might be willing to sacrifice their annual general tag in favor of a limited draw.
Just my $.02 from an outsider looking in.
