The Luckiest Tag "Drawer"

Everyone knows someone who is really lucky drawing tags.
I'd be interested to know who the luckiest Monster Mulier is on this site. I'm thinking of who has drawn the most Once in a Lifetime tags. I know some states handle once in a lifetime a little differently but in general it would be the moose goat sheep bison type tags. For that matter I'd be willing to include any units with at least 150:1 odds for anything else. Maybe at the end of this post in a week we could crown a winner.

In summary it has to be your draw success--not someone you heard about. List the tags drawn and any applicable odds or extenuating statistics.

Like anyone will step on this time bomb. Once they admit it, their luck will be gone.

Ill be the first to admit, I have drawn 0 0 0 - despite numerous attempts.

I know there are a few lucky buggers that have already hit two EXPO tags, and one guy drew an Pahvant elk and Henry deer this year, now that is lucky!

Im definitely not the luckiest, but I drew a Book Cliffs Rifle tag in 2002 with 3 points, then I drew again in 2005 with 0. Been dry since then.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-30-09 AT 02:36PM (MST)[p]I will admit I've been somewhat lucky, although I started applying day one when Utah went to a point system.

OIL Bull Moose in 1998 - max points.
Book Cliffs Bull Elk in 1999 - max points, I have 4 points and I will draw again some day.
Book Cliffs Muzz Deer in 2005 - 6 points.
Mt Goat I have 10 points and should Draw a Uintahs Tag in the next few years.
Book Cliffs Bear in 2000, I now have 7 points and should draw another tag in the next few years.
Lion in 2001/2002 then again in 2008/2009.

Whle I will complain about not drawing tags I have drawn some good ones, but only after many, many years.

NV, mule deer 033 in 97. killed B&C typical
CA, bull tule elk tag 98.
WY, sheep tag 99
NV, desert sheep tag 07.. my Grand Slam sheep

in 2000&2001 after 3 good draws in 3 years went 0 for 43. So I guess it evens out.

OK, I'll start. I'm sure others have been far luckier than me at some time. You can hate me later. :)

I drew my sheep-goat-moose tags here in Idaho in 1993/'94/'95. Then I turned around and drew Wyoming 128 Late mule deer tags back-to-back. Couple years ago, I got both an Arizona 12B and Unit 8 elk tag 2 weeks apart.

My down fall has been the Pauns deer tag - been putting in since 1995, and no joy in Mudville yet. :(

LAST EDITED ON Apr-30-09 AT 08:15PM (MST)[p]thats me...

I drew a 111-114 221-223 Archery Bull elk Hunt in the middle of the rut in Nevada in 2004 with 1 bonus point.

I'll play. To highlight a few premium tags:

G3 Goodale Buck CA
G6 Kern Buck CA
13A AZ Deer
15A Elk Muzzle (3) NM
16A Elk Rifle early NM
SouthWest Desert Elk UT

and last but not least...AZ Super Raffle Elk. I've had more than my fair share of good luck. Now I hope my kids have some good fortune with the drawings.

I have applied 5 times for bull moose in Wyoming, and have drawn 3 tags. Quit applying after the last tag.

Dwalton, Seriously, that is pretty amazing. What kind of odds do the units have for the moose tags you are drawing?

These are some great draw experiences on this post. So far I think I like Blank's experience drawing sheep moose and goat all within 3 years. That is pretty sweet.

Maybe I should have asked to see some photos of what were made of these tags.

Drew area 26 when I was 16 (1982). Five years later, drew it again on the first year after the 5 year waiting period. Applied in 2000 (unsuccessfully). Drew area 22 as a non-ressy in 2001.

As far as other lucky draws:

NV - desert sheep (resident)2003
WY - rocky mtn. bighorn (non-ressy) 2007 with 1 less than max pts.
WY - area 100 elk in 2006 (the year they started the pref pts)

Have had some real bad streaks also: 2005 I think I was something like zero for 35 in the drawings.

LAST EDITED ON May-01-09 AT 09:24AM (MST)[p]Gznokes,

We think a like! I wanted to start a similar thread...

Although I now apply for multiple states, Utah was used to
be about the only state I applied in. Here is what me and
my dad have drawn in Utah:

Dad- Cache Moose 1987 (no points system at the time)

Me- Pilot Mountain LE Elk 1988 (no points system at this time and was one of the hardest units in the state to draw.

Dad- Grouse Creek LE Elk 1998 (max points)

Dad- CWMU LE Deer 2004 (4 or 5 points)

Me- Cache South Muzz LE Elk 2005 (9 points)

Dad- Cache Meadowville Muzz LE elk (2 points)

Me- Henry Mountain Cow Bison 2008 (Expo tag)

Dad- Cache Nebo LE Elk 2009 (Expo tag)

Well...
2007 Nebo Muzz Elk--DWR draw with 6 points
2008 Central Manti Early Rifle--Expo
2009 Beaver Early Rifle --Expo
4 antlerless elk tags all in different units
On my first Utah deer hunt I shot a 197 buck on a northern over the counter tag on public land.
By the way I've only been a Utah resident since 2000.
Luck has been with me for sure.

I had always been content with Archery Only tags in CA. But in '91 I began to apply for draw hunts and the following year, '92, I drew Antelope in Surprise Valley. Since then I've drawn G6, M3 and Bull Tule Elk.
In AZ I've not been as lucky. Over the course of 15 years I've only drawn 12A west early and Archery Bull Elk in 4A.
I do have 12 points for deer, maybe this year it'll happen.

I'll throw my dad in
2007 Colorado Mountain goat tag (4 points)
2008 Rocky Mountain bighorn tag (6 points)
2009 Once in a lifetime Colorado Desert Bighorn Tag (first yr applying)
Pretty decent streak on three of the hardest tags in the state to draw

Co. Sheep Poudre Canyon 85
Az 13B deer 96 and 08
AZ Elk Muzzle unit10 96
Az Elk archery unit9 06
Ca G39 Round Valley deer 04
NM ELK Muzzle unit15 99
Co. Unit 142 deer 01
2009?

I'd twist this the other way. I'd like to think I have the WORST luck of anyone. I am 32 years in and have max points, lived in Wyoming all that time and more and have never drawn a sheep license. I drew a moose in an easy area after 17 years.

I have not drawn an antelope license in an area with less than 100% drawing odds since 1991.

I did draw a limited quota license for Wyoming deer once. It was a tough hunt; never saw a decent buck.

I have drawn Nevada a couple of times, but never a premium area, and never with less than 5 bonus points (25 chances).

I've drawn Colorado but not without knowing I have plenty of points to get it done. If it was not 100%, I never drew.

I have applied for Idaho (5-7 times), Utah (4 times), Arizona (3-4 times) and Montana other times. I have never drawn in any of those states.

I am somewhat like kilbuck in that I have been real lucky at times but many many years..many states..most species. got to get lucky sooner or later right?

unit 3 Wyo sheep

Hart Mt. Refuge Oregon antelope w/o max points

unit 119 Wyo Deer two times in 3 years (before points)

Unit 12A East Late Deer Arizona

Unit 9 Arizona Antelope (2 points)

I've been pretty darn lucky.

09 Plateau antelope

09 Fillmore turkey (a)

06 Thousand Lake deer

05 Plateau antelope

04 Anthro elk

03 Landowner turkey nebo

02 Wasatch bear

01 Manti cougar

00 Fillmore turkey (a)

1997 Paunsaguant deer

96 Nebo bear

Before that I also had another Pansy deer, Wasatch elk and a Book Cliffs elk.

I am astounded when people draw more than one expo tag in a year or even back to back. Those odds are terrible!

Some of you guys drawing abilities here are truly impressive. I've not had a tad of the luck myself. There has been the occasional Wyoming, Colorado, or Nevada buck tag to go along with a few muley tags from here in Kali but nothing anywhere near to what a guy would call a "dream hunt."

I plan on all that changing this upcoming draw!! :)

I'd wish all of you good luck as i normally do but it's obvious, some of you don't need it!

Joey

One of the guys I hunt with has drawn two Utah sportsman tags a deer and this year a Rocky Mountain bighorn. Last year he had a Dutton any weapon not to mention multiple Pauns tags. I wonder if anyone else has drawn two sportsman tags

since we are transitioning to lucky people we know through first hand knowledge . . . I have a buddy who has drawn UT Sportsmans Desert BH, OIL Rocky, and OIL Bison. All he has is the mountain goat and he is done with the Utah OIL draw. I'd say that rivals any Utah OIL streak I know of.

My other buddy drew 2008 NM nonres bighorn (1:1000s) and this year CO nonres Bighorn (1:300) in 2007 he drew Wyoming Bison.

I'd take any of those streaks.

I'm not too lucky most of the time. I have not draw one OIL tag in UT. Last yr I drew my dream tag! Montana bighorn sheep. Less than 1% chance. I doubt I'll ever be that fortunate.

Ya that was my Cousin, and then my other cousin drew a Pahvant Muzzy tag as well.... WTF! The only thing I seem to draw is unsuccefull letters from the mail!

best bud has drawn 5 arizona bull tags in as many years, 3 of them 10 early archery, a 7w archery and a 7e archery. plus 3, 36b late december coues deer tags in the same years. i hate him

I have been fairly lucky with:

1996 Archery Antelope
2004 Archery Manti elk tag
2007 Expo Archery Wasatch elk
2008 Early Turkey tag
2009 Archery Bear tag
2009 Archery Book Cliffs deer tag

I also drew a NM Gila 16D archery tag in the late 90's my 1st try.

I have been lucky on LE tags, but very unlucky on OIL tags! Maybe my luck will switch??

My brother has also been very lucky too! He has drawn:

Ogden moose 0 points
Ded. Hunter Pauns. archery deer tag
Expo Wasatch rifle elk.
Several turkey tags

Hopefully our luck will continue. We are grateful for the tags we have drawn! It sure is fun!

Ok here goes, since 1989,
