Congrats on the kills. I know your husband. (assuming that is him in the pics).I Used to work for him. He was my supervisor when I worked in the green sand. Tell him hello for me. He will remember me if you tell him I am the one who ground my hand in the belt sander. Anyway, congrats again on the kills.

I wondered that. It has been a while since I seen him or your family at all. Only seen you and your mom a time or two when she stopped in at the shop. Sorry for the mix up. Did you get a tag for this year?

Seemed your thread got off to a slow start but doing fine now. Congrats on the fine animals and welcome!! That's some great looking Muley country!

So..uh..what's the gps position to where you got that elk? Hurry and send it to me before your dad finds out!
Congrats on a great couple of animals.

Longbow6360, ten steps from the big pine tree south, 14 steps to the big quakie tree, just kidding lol I don't have a gps and my dad may not like me telling where our spot is. I have hunted two years and killed two spikes it's a really good spot.

Congrat's and welcome to MM......

This is the best obession ever. I live for it. I have gone hunting with my dad since I was three and I am now 16. We hunt where my grandad and great grandad hunted and I think it is so cool!

Welcome longridge, and congratulations young lady!! Good job....you are now the envy of many a grown man on here I can assure you. Your Dad is a very lucky guy to have his daughter hunting with him.....I envy him too...hope my granddaughter falls in love with hunting as you have....good luck this season and thank you for sharing your success with us here.

Longridge- You are just the person to ask this question to- When you were first able to hunt and harvest a deer for the first time (probably 12 years old), were you questioning how you'd feel when it came down to the shot and post shot? My 11 year old daughter turns 12 in May and will be deer hunting with me. She is nervous and I'm just wondering how you handled the kill. Thanks and welcome to MM!

Wiszard-
I was 14 when I killed my first big game which was my elk. I had already had a lot of experience hunting with my dad. I have been going with him since I was three. He took me rabbit hunting (which I think helps majorly being able to follow and lead the animal in your scope). He had also taken me yoter huntin as well. I had seen him kill game and the quick shots. Has she gone with you hunting in the past? Anyways, I was fine with the shot. I was nervous mostly because I didn't want to miss and let my dad down. I also was nervous because my first shot was a long ways away for my first time (295 yards) luckly I killed my elk. I had a huge rush of adrenaline I probably could have ran up the rest of the mountain. It's the best high you can get and I think she will figure that out real quick. Just tell her to have confidence in herself and relax. I wish her the best season. Keep my posted on what happens! Hope this helps.

Good going on some great critters!!!

"It's the best high you can get" What great words. I honestly think this is why most children that love to hunt are less likely to get into drugs.

Thanks for being a great voice from the younger generation.

What caliber is your Browning? What load where you using?

Once again, Great job...

Continued good luck to you,

Todd

Thanks for the comments just_a_hunter. The gun I used was my mom's gun, it's a 257 Roberts I know it's not a real elk gun but it was my first year and I couldn't handle the 06. My dad wouldn't let me shoot over 200 yards but I did kill this one around 220 with one shot right in the neck. I practiced a lot so I was confident in my shot. The load was a Hornady 120 grain SST. Last year I stepped up to the 06 and I done fine. In fact, the gun my dad is holding in the picture is the one I am shooting now its a Smith & Wesson model 1500. Thanks again for the comments I think every young kid should get a chance to hunt, because it RULES.

Longridge,

The .257 Bob is a great caliber and no 'sissy' (for lack of a better word) cartridge. Of course you can't go wrong with the time tested '06 either!

I read an article one time long ago (I couldn't have been more then 12 at the time.) I believe it was written by Carmichele (sp) of Field and Stream who wrote the artile. It went on to explain that anything based on the 7x57 somehow was a 'magic' round, and that the energy distribution because of velocity and design made it perfectly capable of taking most North American big game. This was back before the Magnum boom and the author admitted to being one of the biggest magnum fans of all time.

Once again, thank you so much for being a fighter in the right corner, and I hope you get to give that Model 1500 a proper workout this year.

I'd walk 5 miles out of my way just to shake your fathers hand.

Please let us know how you do this year,

Todd

The 257 Bob as you put it is a great gun it's killed a lot of elk and deer. It's just not the 300 Mag or 300 Ultra Mag or any of the other 338 Mags that all the guys talk about on here. My mom has killed three elk with it. And, it's fun for coyotes it's just not of the more popular guns. And as for the 06 it is the best gun ever made. That's why it's never been changed. That's funny my dad's name is Todd too! Thanks :)

Congrats Longridge. One good thing I noticed about your two kills last year is that they are not GIANORMOUS animals. The reason that's a good thing is because your not a spoiled greenhorn. You have much bigger and better animals to look forward to in your future. Good job and welcome to the club.
