Southern Idaho Mule Deer region

I just moved from Southern UT to Northern UT (saddest day of my life). I would like to know if anyone has any insight on which southern ID region has a good track record of good muley's and has good public access? Thanks for your help!

Frankly, It's a little sad. Unit 40 on the farwest side is a good bet. But you gotta draw. The elk on the eastern side are up in numbers and the deer are down in numbers.

We'll put it this way.. ALL of the SE Units seasons in Idaho have been sortened by a week due to low buck numbers. 4 to 100 ratio right now. And what is SE Idaho isn't easy to access by public and ATV?

You could put in for 70 or 78 in the controlled hunt draw. Some nice country in both of those units, and since they just because draw units last year the quality isn't really good, but probably better than average for SE Idaho, and the draw odds are decent. As quality improves with limited tags I am sure the draw odds will get lots tougher. Good luck on your hunt.

Its really sad that it has come to what it is now, I know guys here in SE Idaho that are trying to hunt UT! Alot of us have gone to hunting in WY. The deer are mismanaged for revenue and not their best interests.

I hunted unit 76 (out of Afton Wy) for years and we took a lot of nice bucks out of there. But haven't hunted there in years because of the declining deer heard. Someday it might come back, but I wouldn't hold your breath.
