landowner tags

i wanted to know the thoughts of the prices of tags in colorado i personaly think they are way to high. There is no tag in colorado worth more then 5 grand deer or elk. ask guys that bought tags in the past and they will tell u the same thing, we r not killing very many bulls over 350 for a 8000-12000$ tag! and the deer tags u can go on a fully guided mexico or canada hunt for the price of a good tag but, There its fully guided and u can kill 200+ pretty consitently! ive hunted 61,10,40,70,21,30,62,76 and 60 and i dont see where they get that price out of them tags! thanks guys just want some opinions.

Did you draw all the units you have hunted or did you buy landowner tags?

If I had the money I would hunt the best units every year and i would gladly hand over 6500 for a deer tag. Sad to say I dont have enough money for those kind of tags so I buy landowner tags in lesser units and i make the best of it. I still get to hunt and there is still a chance at a monster.

no i live on the western slope and have just hunted with buddies and lion hunt all them units! u can go on a dam good fully guided hunt for 6500! 6500 for the tag then u got ur tag fee, food, gas, time off work, and misc u could have over 10000 in it by the time ur done! so u think them units r worth 6500?

I'm doing some fully guided PLO tags in Southern Colorado for $4500 and killing 180" bucks, and other people are saying i am throwing money away doing them for that price!

well if ur happy i guess thats all that matters! i know places u can get fully guided hunts for 5500 including tag and kill up to 190s i just think in this econamy we r paying to much for just the tag! its our own fault for paying that much for a tag though!! they know they can get that much! if we all waited till 2 weeks befor season we could get some really good deals and get prices back to a price they r worth!

LAST EDITED ON Jun-07-09 AT 05:05PM (MST)[p]I agree 6500 is steep for a landowner tag, but there are still people that are not effected. There will be outfitters and Landowner tags that dont sell this year because people are holding onto there money. Or they will have to come down on there price.

there are still a ton of good areas to hunt that dont cost that much. if youhave to hunt the most popular units it will always be steep.

If I was a landowner I would try to sell tags for top dollar. why not?

I think there will definitely be somewhat of a price adjustment on these tags this year. I have already heard about price reductions for some of the most expensive NV landowner tags.

When do landowners find out what vouchers they drew in Colorado?

Another factor is that you wouldn't get to hunt at all if you couldn't buy the voucher because all the good units are 4-8 or more points. So part of it is just buying the opprotunity to hunt, whats that worth to you? I think that the units that you can buy tags in for 2500-3000 are just as good as the units that cost more. I don't think you really up your olds that much by spending another 1000-2500. I guess its supply and demand that keeps the prices rising.

Guess worth it is a reative term.... One good thing about muley hunting is that you can get lucky on any hunt. Being rich and hardcore helps your odds, but big bucks are taken on sheer luck on easy draw or OTC tags too.

i think the landowner tags are all priced way too high, good economy or bad economy periord. i get one every year and they are too high. jd

Just one question. If they are too high, why do you buy them? I don't because they are too rich for my blood.

This is interesting. I keep hearing about this economy and how the prices are going to go down? I even got an email from one facilitator who was bragging how this was the year to buy and that tags would be a bargain. I look at the web pages of LO tags for sale and I sure as hell dont see any price adjustments downward. Seems there are plenty of tags if you want to spend 6k-8k. Go look in the "Tags and Hunts" section. Looks like to me the prices are continuing to climb.

Dam you look at landowner tags on this site with some deer tags going for 10K that's crazy!!!! Does unit 21 in Colorado have 200 class Muleys standing on the side of the road every couple hundred yards? Wow hunting is getting a mighty big price tag put on it.

I just took another gander at the tag section. Geezus, make offer OVER 12k? I hope he eats the SOB. I misspoke, lots of tags if you have 10k.

It's way early boys. I don't even think the landowners even the Colorado vouchers in hand yet. Wait until the brokers sit on the vouchers for a while and don't get $10K and $12K offers, they will come down some. The NV vouchers have been out for a while and they are coming down. While I think there will price adjustments, I don't think you are going to get these tags for dirt cheap.

Let's fact it guys. We set the market. The tags are worth what someone is willing to pay. If we continue to pay 5-8K for a quality tag, they will continue to sell for that price. I think they are priced perfectly. (Way out of my range but perfectly)
If people stop paying, the price will drop. However, I don't think this is very likely.

>Just one question. If they are
>too high, why do you
>buy them? I don't because
>they are too rich for
>my blood.

elmer, i dont buy one every year i get one for free and still think we should do away with them. i understand supply and demand but the price/compared to the quality of some(most) of these tags is just a joke. there is not a voucher in co that is worth over 5000k to me unless its the gov tag. just my thoughts.

This is funny stuff! Were you looking for sympathy here?

If you are BUYING one at any price, you are part of your own problem. Just because the price has gone beyond what YOU want to pay, tough chit!

There are millions of us that could never afford one years ago, much less now. I don't care if they go to 10K.

Supply and demand?

The prices will continue to come down just like the prices on the Utah elk tags. Both colorado deer and utah elk have peaked in general and the best trophy hunting for both is behind us. That doesnt mean there wont be great elk and deer killed it just wont be in the quantity that we saw from 2003 to 2007. The tag brokers in colorado took advantage of this and units that were $500 jumped to $2500 in just a couple years. Early on the prices kind of made sense in relation to pts it took to draw at around $700 per pt but then things went crazy. However last year I bet there were 10 guys unhappy who bought vouchers for every guy who was happy. If the economy stays the same and the hunting in Colorado is tough for one more year the prices will drop significantly overall. The hyped units may see increases however. I know brokers held tags to long last year trying to keep the prices up and ended up with some tags. This year they will be willing to deal earlier if they are not getting as many calls. Most are still unwilling to admit that mature bucks in most units had significant winter kill. I have bought tags in the past but right now the value just is not there for the potential in my opinion.

I have no problem with a LO asking 12k. If he can get it good on him. The part that gets me is a few of the facilitators are acting like prices are dropping like a rock, yet compare them to last year, and they are higher. The other thing that cracks me up is what the original poster is saying, a couple of facilitators brag up the units way beyond what they really are. Any time I hear 200" deer available, or 400" bulls in Colorado, I know they are full of chit. A guy would be lucky to hang his tag on one that big in his lifetime, so for a tag to be advertised as such is BS.

At least the tag I bought last year was advertised as it really was, I did not get the regular 200" is available. I was told everything up front last year and had no surprises.

I wonder how long it will be before some guy prints the tag ad and takes the guy to task for falsely advertising it after he does not find a 200" deer? Some of the ads I see advertised here are a complete joke and if guys are buying them based on how they are advertised they are numb skulls and need to wake up. Some of the ads might be some what true if the guy was able to enter the private like they are supposed to.

I will probably buy another tag some day, but for now, Colorado needs a little rebound. If the tags truely drop in price I may go sooner rather than later? I will only buy from the individual or thru HF because everyone else I have dealt with has been a nightmare.

I will get off my soap box now.;-)

they tell u all them units are great but go look for urself its a diffarent story! they push the hype up for no reason! my buddy said he looked in B&C and only 1 bull came out of 61, so we r gonna buy a 6500 tag to go try to find a 330? and the deer thing is true i think over the last 5 years bigger bucks come out of slepper units! like the buck on grand mesa that was a pet that got killed and he scores around 250ish! when is the last time we have seen pic of a true 375+ bull come out of colorado? i think the dutton tag sold for 9500 i bet they got a chance at a 375+ here in colorado we dont have good odds of that class of bull! i buy landower tags but i scout for 3 months till i find a deer i like then buy a tag! and i find local LO to buy so i cut cost there! i just wanted to know y they think 21,61,40,53,63,10,30 and70 are so great ive been there during all hunts there isnt a 200 buck and a 375 bull tied to every currant bush! thanks for ur time guys!

Pardon me but it seems that it is guys just like you that have drove the prices up! Supply and demand buddy! Unfortunatly there are too many so called hunters who just want to pay big and shoot an elk tied to a tree rather than actually hunt. I used to guide for an outfitter but I couldn't put up with those kind of guys.>they tell u all them units
>are great but go look
>for urself its a diffarent
>story! they push the hype
>up for no reason! my
>buddy said he looked in
>B&C and only 1 bull
>came out of 61, so
>we r gonna buy a
>6500 tag to go try
>to find a 330? and
>the deer thing is true
>i think over the last
>5 years bigger bucks come
>out of slepper units! like
>the buck on grand mesa
>that was a pet that
>got killed and he scores
>around 250ish! when is the
>last time we have seen
>pic of a true 375+
>bull come out of colorado?
>i think the dutton tag
>sold for 9500 i bet
>they got a chance at
>a 375+ here in colorado
>we dont have good odds
>of that class of bull!
>i buy landower tags but
>i scout for 3 months
>till i find a deer
>i like then buy a
>tag! and i find local
>LO to buy so i
>cut cost there! i just
>wanted to know y they
>think 21,61,40,53,63,10,30 and70 are so
>great ive been there during
>all hunts there isnt a
>200 buck and a 375
>bull tied to every currant
>bush! thanks for ur time
>guys!

I used to,,, and still do wonder the same thing, but if you do a little math it is rather simple. For myself, I make about $15,000 per year and will pay up to $1,000 for a landowner voucher. Now with that said, someone who makes $150,000 per year using the same percentage formula of income to voucher cost can certainly pay $10,000 for a voucher and in the end have a hell of a lot more disposable income than I. Crazy, definitely, I am just sorry that I was born poor.

>I am just
>sorry that I was born
>poor.

LOL at least your ugly too!!!
I think most of us are born poor! I was even born naked!
Some change that around the rest of us ##### about the tag cost. LOL
