WY Region H

That's the Hoback Canyon area off Hwy 191, used to be the number one typical came from there before Burris killed his Colo buck, its steep, (Mt Goat Steep) beaver area Used to be good, haven't hunted there since 90?s too old now, cobwebs in the brain, Muray Jones outfits in H n G (horse crk.) and take monsters every year.

I'd have to pull my map out to remember more, good luck?.

Jared,
I haven't spent tons of time in region H hunting deer, but know plenty of people who have. I grew up in Star valley, and have been in there a few times. It is rugged country as was mentioned. It's a great place to work hard and find a big buck.

Maury Jones no longer guides there. His camp belongs to someone else.

Jared, I hunted H last year and put a lot of time in......But to no avail. I'm a non-resident and cannot hunt the Wilderness areas, which I believe would have the better chance at finding an old buck but I do know that the grizzly creek and north horse creek like mentioned above wouldn't be a bad place to start. Anywhere on the Hoback you will run into quite a few people. I did a little scouting last year on the upper hoback and it looks like some great country but there are also a lot of guides in there as well.
I was packing in to the Hoback last hunt and I talked to a hunter that said he would recomend hunting the willow creek area in between the hoback and the grayback ridge....he claimed it was a 10 mile ride back in where you were less likely to see people. Claimed they seen a couple 170 -180 bucks

Good luck and do as much scouting as possible

STEEP is a understatement, I camped 9 1/2 miles back in and hunted from there, Tough hunt for sure, we saw some good buck and thought it was going to be a easy thing until the wolf showed up and the deer disappeared. It a good long trip into where some good camping and hunt is. Now last year right above Alpine there was bucks right at timberline that was pretty good and you could use a spotter and see them. Good luck you will have fun, Did I mention that we didn't see any hikers back in the place we was it was all horseback. IT'S STEEP
