Was wondering if any of the dedicated hunters have received their deer tags yet? Was thinking of changing for a northern tag but i need it in my hand to do it.

Thanks buckshot

I received mine about a week and a half ago. I would recomend you get on the DWR websit and make sure that have you hours and Rac correct because if you have everything complete you should have already and gotten your tag.

I have not gotten mine yet. I've checked the web site several times for my records and they have me down for 16 of the 24 hours and my RAC meeting. Shouldn't I have recieved my tag by now?

I was told Northern tags are gone? Any way this is what I found out on my tag. My combo lic. expired around the 17th of May and I did not by a new one until the 30th. So I guess when they did their report it showed me with out a valid combo lic. So my tag was not mailed to me. I have had all my hours and Rac. meeting done for over a year.

Going forward I think all tags will be gone in the draw. We will not have the opportunity to change regions.

Guys-all of the rules for getting your license are in the proclamation or the DWR website and are very straightforward. Here is a link:

http://wildlife.utah.gov/rules/R657-38.php

Every year a bunch of guys would save time and worry if they just read the rules (i.e work hours, hunting license required, etc).

Not trying to be a dink, just reminding everyone to read through the Dedicated hunter rules every year, because they do seem to change quite often.

ElkhunterUt,

Correct me if I'm wrong, I joined the Dedicated Hunters program in January 2008 when the service hours were at 24 hours. The program was changed in 2009 and now requires 40 hours of service. Do I need to do the 40 hours of service or is my contract still at 24 hours? If it's still at 24 hours where can I get a copy of the 2008 Dedicated Hunters rule that I joined up under? In the current rules it states that I have to have 16 hours the first year, 16 more the second year, remaining hours before Oct 1 of the third year.

a) A participant must provide no fewer than sixteen hours of service before obtaining the first Dedicated Hunter Permit.

(b) A participant must provide an additional sixteen hours of service prior to receiving the second Dedicated Hunter Permit.

(c) A participant must provide the remaining balance of hours of service prior to October 1 of the third-year in the program to be eligible for a loyalty point.

Seeing that I don't have a copy of the 2008 rules I was under the impression that the hours would have been divided out in a similar way (8 hours first year, 8 the second year, remaining hours the third year) under the 2008 rules. Ether way I should be fine. I have taught a couple hunters education class this year that I need to get the paper work signed to get credit for.

400bull,
I am in the same boat as you and joined prior to the rule changes for this year. Essentially anyone enrolled before 2009 has to complete 24 service hours based on the contract when you joined, but the full 24 hours were supposed to be completed in the 2nd year. The reasoning for this was because many guys would kill their 2 deer in their first 2 years in the program and never complete their final 8 hours in the 3rd year.

I agree this could be confusing for guys that joined prior to 2009.

From the DWR Dedicated Hunter website:

* Participants who enrolled before 2009 must to complete the 24 service hour requirement set forth in the rule when they applied. Those who have not completed their RAC requirement by January 1, 2009, must complete an alternative online Wildlife Conservation and Ethics course. (available April 2009)

If I remember correctly you had to have all 24 hours on the second year because people were using both tags in the first 2 years and not doing the extra 8 hours for the third year.

Thanks Elkhunter, I looked all over that page several times and could not locate where it said anything about service hours for those that joined in 2008. After your post I was able to locate it right away. Go figure.

Now I need to get the DWR to repond to my emails about getting my Hunters Ed classes counted. That could take a while.......

No problem-I hope you get your hours worked out with the DWR and get your tag soon. The hunts are coming fast!!
