Prescribed Burns

So, we drew some tags for a Southwest New Mexico deer hunt for mid November. Just yesterday, they started a fairly large prescribed burn right in the middle of the area we'll be hunting. What effect, if any, should we expect this have on our hunt, and the deer in the area? Looking forward to your responses...

If they are doing a prescribed burn now, the deer and elk love that area after because that is where all the fresh new tender growth is. I have heard alot of people talk about hunting burn areas the year of upto 2 years after because of all the good new growth. Should be good for you, but you also need some moisture to get that area to start to grow new stuff. Good Luck!!

what are they burning. i work up in utah and norhtern arizona for blm fire. As the other reply said if you get any moisture you should have a ton of new growth in there and the deer around here anyway usually flock to those areas. iv'e seen deer come into burns we have done around here while there is still smoke so i wouldn't guess it would have any negative affect on your hunt, hopefully just a positive one.

Thanks for the info. I figured some people out there would have some input. They're burning some pinion/juniper wooded areas as part of a habitat restoration project.
