If we really want to help Condors we should offer $5 a head for every dead crow, raven, and magpie folks bring in. That would leave a lot more out there for the condors to eat.

This isn't just about condors either. Just watch, pretty soon the government will outlaw lead bullets to protect us from ourselves to make sure we don't eat too many lead fragments in our game meat. Thank goodness we have the governement looking out for us.

Another back-door method of the greenies to reduce hunting privelege. Hope they never find a condor with a bullet in it, they'll push for making the condor range a no hunting zone.

Notice all the other methods too:
-making as many "wilderness" and "national Parks" as possible
-The mandatory ID info for all ammo purchasers
-additional ammo taxes
-trying to pass laws making it difficult for the ammo business and retailers....

I'm sure there are more

LAST EDITED ON Jul-02-09 AT 04:13PM (MST)[p]I can't think of deer that I have shot which has retained a bullet. They all had an exit hole. Deer aren't that thick. They should consider having cartridge restrictions before lead restrictions.

I wonder how much rearch was conducted before they made the rule.

love the mask bessy

Smellybuck,
That is not a mask, That is exactly what Bobcat looks like even after he shaves.

"Hope they never find a condor with a bullet in it, they'll push for making the condor range a no hunting zone."

What's worse is that the way these crazies operate, they would shoot one themselves and then claim it was a hunter.

Then... they wouldn't release the information that they based their findings on, but Anti-Sportsmen would already be up in arms... Or... not arms because they don't believe in them, but they'd be up in Cardigan sweaters, man-bags, and rhine stones.

Thanks BObcat. Id like to save a condor if it will save me $40. what do you have to do? ouldnt find it on the UDWR site.

Thanks. I enjoy the info and the banter on this site. Very entertaining!! Good luck to all of you this yr.

When you applied it asked if you would like a box of lead free ammo what i dont know is when they are going to send the bullets and i dont see what good one box will do by the time you sight your gun in and practice you wont have enough to hunt with IMO

This progam has not been implemented this year. The condors have taken residence just south or Kolob Reservoire near Zion National Park. Anyone familiar with the area will know that there is not a limited entry unit in this area. Studies have shown that these condors are very prone to lead poisoining. Some believe that gut piles and wounded animals may be a source of this poisoning. There is no regulation saying that hunters are REQUIRED to hunt with lead free ammunition in this area. . .. there IS a proposal that will make lead free ammunition available for FREE to those hunters that want to swing by and pick it up. How can anyone possibly complain about something that is free? Come on guys. . . . . . It is hard for me to understand how people that love the outdoors and wildlife so much can work themselves up into such a frenzy over the idea of protecting an animal. Just because it doesn't have antlers doesn't mean it's not worth protecting. . . right??

This is B.S., We did our own testing and condors are not any more prone to lead poisoning than they are to pure copper poisoning. We tested this on 20 condors ten in group A and 10 in group B. All condors in group A were shot with all lead bullets. All condors in group B were shot with non-lead monometal bullets. All birds were then timed from shot until they expired, the differences were negligible.

The biggest factors we found that helped promote a quicker death were bullet diameter and velocity. Of course with such a small sampling we are going to reconduct this experiment on a larger group of 100 condors to make sure there were no errors in sampling.

We have also done testing on Utah prairie dogs and desert tortoises. These results have not yet been released.

Anyone wishing to help in this experiment contact the DWR at 801 538 4700 or take your sample birds to 1594 W North Temple SLC,Ut. This also qualifies as a dedicated hunter project and you will get full credit for hours accumulated.

(DISCLAIMER)
This is a joke and not an actual scientific experiment. We are not liable for any action by the DWR if you actually submit condors. If you do submit birds you are retarded and probably will go to jail. We do not yet know if your jail time will count towards dedicated hunter hours. No condors were actually harmed in this non-experiment.

that was pretty funny- i dont care who you are

Funny....and probably not to far from the real truth on their so-called studies...funded by federal grants paid by you know who...

what kind of bullets are they giving out? barnes X??

if it's not a law, but the bullets are FREE, if they are good bullets, and you can get enough to site in and hunt with, then i guess it's not that bad of a deal yet??

PETA CUSTOM AMMO: 300 ultramag, 180gn barnes loaded w/ 100 grains of Bullseye. KABOOM! No thanks I'll stick to my own ammo.
