so who here has hunted mule deer in alberta? can a guy from the states hunt up there without a guide? how is the public land hunting up there? thinking about something like that in a couple years and just wanted a little feedback. dont want to hunt with a guide. all i know now is there are a lot of HUGE deer up there.

I have hunted Alberta, you need a guide or sponsored by a resident, but I think you can't do that every year. I don't quite understand the sponsorship thing. It comes down to you need a guide and they are aware of the big deer which equals big money.

Rich is right...it'll be a bit pricey. I just read an article about Willow Creek Outfitters out of Nanton, AB and they get $6,000 for a 6-day rifle hunt. Archery prices are a bit better at $3,500 and $4,500 for 6 or 8-days respectively. License fees for this year are $450 according to their website.

I live in alberta, you don't need a guide.. You can have an alberta resident apply for a hunter host liecense and all it costs you is a tag. BUT all the general zones up here for mule deer are not known to produce quality bucks. If you apply for a draw in one of the zones and get a hunter host, you could be in for some true monsters.....
