North WEST Nebraska Mule Deer Hunt

Can anyone give me information on hunting mule deer in north WEST Nebraska, specifically in mule deer unit ?Pine Ridge?, Sioux County, along the Niobrara River?
Our hunting group has gained access to a 15,000 acre ranch along the Niobrara River for the Nebraska rifle season (the week before thanksgiving). We plan hunting it DIY. Is anyone familiar with the area and are there many mule deer in that area?
Thanks for your help.

It's going to vary a lot. Along the Niobrara River itself, it's mostly grasslands in that county, a few cottonwoods and some farm ground. Mostly whitetails right along the river. If you get a little ways north, you'll hit ponderosa pines and more mule deer. There is farm ground up there, too.

I leased a couple of ranches there for about 6 years. We never got a good mule deer there. We did take a couple of respectable whitetails, around 150. The best mule deer I saw was only a three year old. But the country could hold big bucks if you have 15,000 acres and it is well managed. But from what I have seen, those deer get whacked because they get hunted in the rut in November and through the long muzz season in December.

I have archery hunted west of where you are talking about near Chadron. Really never saw much in the way of trophy sized muleys Was hunting public land mostly.. What most locals called good muleys wouldnt be considered the same here in utah. 15,000 well managed acres might produce something alot better than what I saw though. Good Luck
