Hey guys this is my first post on here. I recently drew a G tag for mule deer and I want to bowhunt and rifle hunt. Can anyone help me out, I have never been over there and dont know anything about the area. I also wanted to know if the bucks pattern well into the hunting season or are they always traveling?

G is a good hunt and it is a large area also. If you havn't been there I would select a couple of different places you want to hunt and try and visit the area pre-season. Its all great area and different parts of the unit offer different styles of hunting. On the southern part you could drive a lot of roads and to the north mostly to be effective you want to backpack in or do a lot of hiking to get in the backcountry. As for the pattern of the big bucks......as soon as they get any pressure they are off of the high ridges and down into the better cover of the pines. You should be able to pattern a big buck preseason as well as during the archery and maybe find him the first day of the hunt but that would be a streach. Really depends on a couple things, Weather and Hunting Presure.

Thanks, Im going to check out some country this next week or so, hopefully well get a better idea.

I've hunted that area for 15 years until I moved away 2 years back. My father still hunts that area fairly regularly. If you get off the roads, there are some bruisers up there. Send me an email or pm and I can happily send you in the right directions. Beautiful country up there.

i drew a g tag also, i hunted there a couple of times in the 90's. how is the water or lack of it this year? can't wait to go! ce61
