anybody ever hunted this range? I am thinking above deweyville and towards the north. I have looked into some country and just want a general opinion of the area. looks like good counrty to me. I know the state record non-typical was killed in the area.

Depends on how far you want to go north. Half of that range above deweyville is private. For the most part It gets pounded pretty bad and it is some nasty country off of the front and back sides. If you want to try this area the more power to you but you will need to do your homework on the accesses and trails in and out of there. I wouldn't hope for anything more then a small 3 or 4 point and thats if you hunt it hard......although in all the time I spend up there I have come across a few mid 20 inchers. Just doesn't seem to be very many deer in the area, probably because the Deweyville side doesn't have much cover and is usually very dry along with lots of hunting pressure.

The two bucks on the very left side came off that range but it has been over 40 years ago. Once in a while you see a decent buck on the winter range but not many that are over 4 years old. I wish we could see this range be a limited entry of some sort......

I like coming in from the north end--and taking the trailhead up thru the switch backs and then breaking out on the Elwood/Dewyville/Honeyville face and hunting south along it....
It would be a dream come true if 'they' would add it to the Wasatch Front bow buck dates.....

Mean-steep MO-FO but alot of guys come up from the valley floor and do those big ole muleys get pushed to ya.....

Bring a lunch and for sure spend alot of the day on the face...

I don't agree with the method of waiting for someone to push you big bucks..... Not saying the occasional big buck doesn't slip up and is seen this way and harvested but to grow old and big they find the patches and hidey holes that don't get pressured and if pressured most of the older ones disapear into anything thick enough to make em invisible. I would rather spend my time glassing the crap out of the place and maybe coming off the top a couple hundred yards so you can see what others can't. If you open that to the extended archery that little mountain range would to be anhialated!! thats my honest opinion

I live on this mountain range and there are some nice bucks. you do have to work for them and they can be very hard to find. I have hunted those mountains for a few years but only a day or two each year. I have seen a buck every time i have hunted. I hike these mountains regularly and would love to hunt them more often but i hunt with the family and it doesnt make for a great place to take my mother. If you hunt it hard you wont be dissapointed. You can access from the northeast in mendon, the east in sardine canyon(rattlesnake trailhead), or in honeyville(Coldwater Canyon WMA). Let me know if you want more info and how do you send a pm? This is my first time posting on this site.

My understanding is some of the top that is private hasnt been posted in the past.
But it is now being leased this year to a outfitter long term.
So you better watch for more signs. But im sure it will be well posted.
Any one know who this is leased to and what the costs will be?

According to my map it is all wilderness area. Can wilderness area be private property?

I grew up in Wellsville. Those mountains were my stomping grounds for 30 years. I'll PM you. My dad and I use to sit on a huge rock between two canyons. I'd glass one and he'd glass the other. Man we killed a lot of bucks out of there! He barely made it the last time we went up (cancer), have'nt been back since.
