I have been up scouting in Unit 49 a couple of times now. I have not seen a lot of deer. I have been going to the south of the buffalo peaks. It looks like great mule deer country. Has anybody hunted in this Unit for deer? I have a second season tag. I am wondering if there is another spot in the unit that I should be focusing on.

LAST EDITED ON Aug-19-09 AT 06:29PM (MST)[p] I wish I could help you bro, I hunted that unit for ten years and after '07 I'm done with it. All you see is paddle headed does and spikes/forks. Alot of the elk hunters get buck tags and come down from the buffalos where their elk camps are and kill the first legal buck they see which is ALWAYS a sporky. It's pretty lame to watch all the road hunters drive around looking for a spork next to the road to shoot.

In the time I hunted it I can say I only saw one really nice buck, all therest were dinks. I own property in that unit, right in the middle of great looking hunting land and I won't even hunt out of my trailer that's out there. Sad, very sad...

I bought a voucher and hunted there last year during 3rd rifle. Shot the 2nd biggest deer I saw on the last day of the season and he was a 2X2

I wont be going back!

Thanks for the info. I think that I will be focusing on 57, 58, and 581. I am heading out today to check out 57 and 58.

49 is high country generally. The deer start migratiting out of there early. I think you would be better served hunting those areas that you mentioned. Considering those peaks get snow as early as right now, the bucks start moving down as soon as the first snow hits. Good luck.

It's always an adventure!!!
