Just got back from 11 days in the CO wilderness chasing those velvet covered alpine mule deer. Ended up with this old massive buck with short tine length. He's 29.5" wide, 20" of mass per side, 4" eye-guards, and a nice little cheater on his left side.
My hunting partner's buck is a narrow (22") but long tine buck that will score in the 150's. The hunt was great......until we had to pack out all the meat, cape and antlers........92 pounds in my pack.......I need a horse! :) Hope you enjoy.

I was wondering when your pictures would surface! Great trip. You guys have this CO high country hunting down to a science. Unfortunately they cut the tags in our area this year so all we got is a point. Next year however, we'll be up there sucking air for sure.

It's always an adventure!!!

I've done my share of "air sucking" at high elevations and (more than) my share of ruing the day until I got the deer off the mountain.

Advice: Not a horse....llamas. They're cheap and easy to get along with. Makes those trips MUCH easier.

Within the shadows, go quietly.

Ya done it again Roy!! Congrats on a great buck and a great hunt. Well done!!!!

You the man Roy! Love the mass and frame on your old buck. He's a dandy archery buck, actually, both bucks are very nice. Congrats!!!

Do it while you can guys, believe me, there comes a time...

Roy,
Super highcountry buck! Seems every year I wait to see what you post up and you never let me down. Congrats on yet another great archery buck.

Roy,
Your an example to us all, of how it's done. Man CONGRATS year after year after year, you do it. BIG TIME CONGRATS.

Damn Roy, have you ever ate a tag? Another awesome buck! Congrats.

Thanks for once again sharing your trip with us, Roy. Great buck and beautiful country. I'll be there for muzz season soon. Care to share any details on the stalk and shot?

Roy-
Once again, way to get it done! Each year you keep me wondering what you're going to pull off with that stick-n-string.

Thanks guys....glad you enjoyed the photos.

Well, I'd like to say how I spotted the buck a mile away and stalked all day to get into position and made a great shot.......but that wouldn't be true.

Fact is, I had just completed my late afternoon meal of Mountain House Beef Stroganof at my temporary hacienda and decided to begin my hike to a vantage point I've been using to glass in the late afternoon. I walked about 50 yards from camp and looked 100 down the open ridge I was camped on and saw him bedded in the wide open. I couldn't believe it.....told you guys I was lucky.

A short stalk later, I was within 40 yards.....but he was now standing behind one of the few trees around. I maneuvered my way around and decided not to hug the front shoulder, as it was close to some small branches. I usually make pretty good shots, but this one was a bit further back than I would have liked.......through the liver. After locating my arrow and confirming the shot location, I decided to leave him over-night and track him in the morning since he headed straight down the STEEP hill and into the timber.

The next morning, I located him about 150-200 yards from where I arrowed him. After my partners were done with their morning hunt, they found me and shared the loads back to camp. That was easy pack......the pack out to trail head with all the meat, cape, and antlers was much tougher! That's about it......the rest of the week was spotting for my hunting partners and enjoying God's country.

Roy,

Consistency, That is what we like to see! You are the man when it comes to the Bow and Arrow and mule deer. There is still lots of hunting left. What else do you have planned?

Way to go Roy! Great pictures! I was wondering when we'd see your 2009 results. The pictures tell a thousand words.

Thanks for sharing,

Nick

Great job Roy! Fred is a game slaying machine as well. If any of you are hurting because of the economy Roy has an abundance of venison at his house.

Nice bucks, you old guys are doing it up right. LOL
Alpine hunting don't get much better then that.
Kingsize bed at the hotel what more can a guy ask for.

Bruce:

Ol' Fred had a great shot at an AWESOME buck that would have net in the mid to upper 180's.......it was such a beautiful shot too.......all the way until it sailed harmlessly inches underneath the buck's chest! :)

Im going to have to go down to the shop soon I want to see them bad boys in person!!!

Geeze Roy, I'm really starting to get bored with your hunt posts. Its the same thing every year...big bucks, big bukcs... EVERY year you post up big bucks!

Aboslutely amazing! I don't know of anyone that has your kind of success. I'm guessing your years and years of experince chasing them has nothing to due with your ability to make it happen year in year out. ;-)

Awesome, thanks for sharing and the inspiration!

Congrats on another great buck. 40" of mass is awesome and lots of character. You always seem to get it done and more importantly you do it the right way. I appreciate the photos and the comments you make on the site. You are a true bowhuter. Congrats on the hunt. It looks like a blast.
