Pedestal Mounts

I am looking for ideas for a pedestal mount for a mule deer.
Any and all examples would be helpful in my decision.

Just wondering,
I am not sure if I have ever seen a mule deer pedestal mount in the full sneak position.
If you have let me know if you like how it looked or if you have a picture please post.
Thanks

LAST EDITED ON Sep-08-09 AT 08:45AM (MST)[p]I was in the same boat as you are. I decided to have a walnut cabnet made, put in a smaller euro mount buck, then put the bigger buck on top. It was costly, but I haven't seen another one like it.

Your options are limitless. Like Browtines, make it unique and just enjoy it.

Heres a couple of mine.

Looks like you got similar genetics on those two bucks.

Yelum,
Is that artificial sage on that one mount? I've been trying to find some for a display for a european mount.

I really like that sage. If I ever kill another buck worth mounting, I would like a pedestal like that. I have one with some cool features and although it can be a pain to keep the kids from ruining it, it looks real good.

The last two years I have gone with the logs that the bucks are mounted on. I like them.

I like to utilize my coffee tables in the house. I either put pedestal mounts on them or my wife ends up putting fufu nic nacs on the tables. Which would you rather have?

mmwb,
It is real sage. The taxi soaks it in a fluid misture that preserves the plant. After 4 years the plant is still nice and soft. But beware of kids. :)

Heres another view

Those are some great looking pedestal mounts.
I really appreciate your help.
I want the pedestal to be unique so I have been looking at a ton of pictures online for ideas and I think these are some of the best I have seen so thanks for sharing.

I am thinking about making the pedestal out of metal. I have a brother in law that makes all sorts of custom metal fixtures for houses.
Have any of you ever seen a pedestal made out of metal?

Sam Raby taxidermy has a pedestal swivel mount that is pretty cool. it allows a 180 degree turn so you can change up the look.

Just google sam raby animals in motion.

A old wagon wheel that was getting close to rotting away. My buddys state record muzzy antelope is on the other half. His bro. in law built the table. Had to take all the wifes nick nacks off it for the picture. Without her touch it wouldn't make the front room. LOL!

Picture doesn't show it the best, but I really like the wall pedestal mounts...This is my 08 29.5" mounted by Greg Heil.

Browtine, that is a sweet pedestal. I have looked over quite a few in my days but that one takes the cake. Thanks for sharing!

If he does it out of metal, have him incorporate a picture frame for your best field photo to go in. That would be cool.

Thanks Yelum that is a great suggestion. I am almost 100% it will be out of metal with a possibility of some wood. We have been talking about a lot of different ideas and I think it will turn out pretty nice.
I really like your idea and will try to incorporate it into the design. Thanks

Here you go. I was skeptical when I went for a pedestal mount vs. the full sneak wall mount I was thinking of, but no way could I be happier than what I am with this mount.

That is a fantastic pedestal mount, what is the story behind this Buck...when, where and score?? Who did the work for you?

Brian

He's a Northern AZ buck, south of the canyon. Took him two years ago. Had scouted him up since the previous summer and fall, kept an eye on him for about 4 months, have pics and video of him in velvet, and my son and I closed the deal on him finally on day 6 of the hunt. Had wanted to get my son's tag on the buck, but he took a shot, wasn't sure if he'd hit the buck or not, so I moved to what we thought was the other nice 4pt in the group (this buck) and took him. Buck scored right at 180. I might get so lucky some day to take a bigger buck, but a better hunt will be nearly impossible to come by. Actually had the story written up in Eastmans' Journal last year. What a hunt for me and the kid.

The taxidermist was Chris Favour of Mount-N-View Taxidermy in Flagstaff, AZ.

I kicked around a lot of different ideas with him, and settled on a pedestal mount finally. Gave him some thoughts of what I was looking for, how I wanted ears placed, and some thoughts on habitat for the mount, but the finished product was all him. The mount he gave me blew me away. He did a bobcat mount for my son that the kid called in on the same hunt, and did an outstanding job on that mount as well.

I constructed the pedestal myself. Wanted a rough sawn, weathered "barnwood" look. As there's no barnwood to be found in my area, I picked up some cedar fencing, and "weathered" it with a black stain followed by hours of wire brush to remove the stain to get the look I wanted. Thought it was a great mount to commemorate a once in a lifetime type hunt.
