What length bipod do you use for hunting? I'm looking at the Harris. There are a few different models and I'm a bit confused with the nuances.

It looks like Harris has a light weight model now.

If anyone else has a different brand I'd be open to that too.

I have a few Harris Bi-pods on a couple of my rifles but the truth is I think I have only been able to use it once or twice shooting at game.. Seems like when a shot presents itself the Bi pod is two low for proper aiming...Especially in sage..

LAST EDITED ON Sep-28-09 AT 05:01AM (MST)[p]I use the tallest one. I believe its the Harris S27C. Its heavy but I use it all the time. I've tried others but that is the one I like the best. Good luck.

I like the 27" swivel model also. The 25 incher is just a tad short for sitting.

I have used the Snipe Pods for about 7-8yrs now and I won't leave the house without them! They are light weight and attach to your rifle in seconds. I would highly reccomend these over the other pods because of the weight and you can carry them on the rifle but I carry mine in my pocket and attach them when I need them. It takes me about 10 seconds to put them on the gun. Bottom line, I LOVE these pods.

Good luck,

I had a Harris and it was ok, I have since upgraded to the Snipe Pod as well.
I think this is a much more versatile and less problematic shooting system for my style of hunting.

I have killed only two animals with them so far, but these animals were at 321 yds, and 490 yds. This bi-pod is rock solid, and very light. I won't be going back to a Harris any time soon.

Hope this helps your decision.

I prefer to use the stoney point shooting sticks. they are not attatched to the rifle to get in the way and a re infinetly adjustable for height up to about 48 inches or so.

This is good info. I had not uncovered the snipepod in my research. https://snipepod.ipower.com/attach.html

It looks like a hybrid of shooting sticks and bipod.

Would either of you using the system care to share what the advantage is over regular shooting sticks--like the stoney point, which I own and think are very good.

With the snipepod are you using the 27" or the 30" models?

One more question on the snipepod. The website seems to indicate you can fold the legs, velco them, and use it for the prone position. Has anyone tried this?

ya, I've tried them, I'll sell mine if you want them. nothing better than a Harris bi pod if you want a solid rest.

I have the 30" model, which gives me a whopping 3" more than my Harris. and the snipe pod's are no more stable than shooting sticks.then there is the whole tent pole folding up BS to deal with.

I bad mouth them, but that's just my opinion of course.

Gznokes, as far as the shooting sticks and the Snipe Pods I will not use sticks beacuse of several reasons. One is they are not attached to the guna and if you set up and have to move you ahve to make sure that you grab them and it takes another hand to carry them so now you have your hands full. Two, I don't think sticks are as steady as pods but that is my $.02. I would highly reccomend the Snipe Pods, I have taken several deer because of them and like I said in my earlier post they are light weight and easy to attach. I don't like walking around with something attached to my rifle. Alot of time when i get somewhere to glass I will attach them to my gun in case I see something.

This is just my experience and $.02 worth.

Good luck,

the snipe pod is great if you are shooting under 300 yds, but is no where near as steady as a harris bipod. I think the snipod is great for muzzleloading. The snipepod can be used in a lot more situations but what you gain in universaility you lose in stability. I have tried a lot of rests over the years and I'm leaning more towards a good ole fasion backpack as my most used and effective rest.

I use the Harris 27 S WITH a Pod Loc installed. Best bipod available without question. The snipe pod folded from the recoil of my 300 Win Mag. I would hate to see it with my 300 or 338 RUM! If I need to shoot standing I use my Bog Pod. All I need.

Look into the lightweight Caldwell bipod. A little cheaper, lighter than the Harris. It extends enough for a kneeling shot, swivels, and pivots well. Just another option that I found works for me.

Snipepod vs any bipod or sticks hands down, very versitile and steady in a multitude of situations. I've even used them fully extended while in the prone position, my wife has used them successfully also and would've leave the house without them. Anything else is a waste of money.

Great feedback. I have heard that the podlock is really essential to rapidly secure the pivoting feature on the Harris.
