I've been collecting points for Wyoming and currently have three points. I'm going to keep purchasing points until I feel that I have a reasonable chance at drawing a tag on unit 102. Based on the number of applicats to tags given how many points do you think one will need to have before he has a reasonable chance at drawing a tag? Reasonable in this case is better then a 50/50 chance.

400B - you're in the same boat as me. Didn't get in on the "ground floor" with points, so you'll never really be in the max points pool. You'll most likely be in the random draw for 102, which means 50-50 odds prolly won't come anytime soon.

If you don't have max points (4) then you won't have a 50/50 a long, long time. Heck max point holders won't see those odds for maybe 10-15 years.

At least Wyoming gives you a sliver of an opportunity to draw with a certain portion of tags set aside for random draw. My sister applied and drew a tag on her first try. We figured the odds at around 1%.

Well this year in the Special Draw with maximum points 22 tags were given out to 145 applicants. So if you have 3 points all 145 are ahead of you and a bunch of people just buying points that are in the max pool without applying for a unit.

So best case scenario you are 7 years from all of the maximum point holders that are currently putting in to cash in and then you will be at the top. I used the Special draw odds because the regular are even worse.

Hope you are a young man because the wait will be a long time.

I wouldn't waste my points on a 102 tag.

If it was me I would put in for ummmm 119 for deer. Yeah thats it. or That late season Dubois tag, its 125.

Not 102.

Everyone has max points in Wyoming because everyone learned how important it is after all the other states point systems were implemented. I am currently paying to keep my father-in-law, cousin, brother and wife in max points and it is expensive. I need to pick a mediocre unit where my cousin and father-in-law have the best shot at about a 160" buck and maybe a 280" bull so that I can get them off my payroll since that is about all it would take to make them happy.

I have a few units in mind but haven't been able to get the time off work to help them so I have been keeping them out of the draw.

On the points game thing, just remember . . .

. . . you can't win if you don't play the game!

Head's up - Alaska is going to a points system in 2010.

Don't forget to get in on the "ground floor!"

I was asleep at the wheel for WYO.

Rackmaster,

I didn't think of that, haha. I should wrap the Wyoming Game & Fish receipt from the website for Christmas. I'm serious.

anyone know how wyoming averages group points. If one person has 3 points and the other has 4 does the group have 3.5 or do they round up or down?
