2 Nice Nevada Mulies

I'd like to start out by thanking the members of MM for the great advice you gave us when we first learned we were drawn for our Nevada Area 22 Unit 221-223 early rifle tag. As non residents we knew nothing about the area except that it had the potential to produce big bucks. My partner Warren requested the help with picking a guide on these forums and he got many responses. The one guide that seemed to interest us the most was Greg Krogh. It seemed Greg had produced some great bucks over the years so he was our 1st choice. We contacted the Master guide that Greg was working for (White Rock Outfitters) and he told us he had room and that Greg was available to guide us for that hunt.
By the time Oct. 5th got here we were more than anxious to have such a great opportunity at some trophy bucks. When we first met Greg we discussed the type of deer we were looking for. Neither of us have ever been in to scoring animals so the details were more of a description. Warren was looking for a buck with nice even formation, fairly heavy and beyond his ears. I was looking for something wide and heavy.
Opening day found us glassing up several deer and eventually we spotted a nice 4x4 that looked good. He was in a good location so Warren and Greg headed toward him while I watched in the scope. After a couple mile stalk they found the buck in a draw and Warren was able to close the deal with his 300 Ultra Mag at 150 yds.
The following day we were again glassing in the morning and Greg spotted another good buck. This one was a little farther and required a longer hike but I was game so off we went. As we moved toward the deer they started moving up into some trees to bed. After several hours we finally made it to a vantage point and Greg spotted the deer bedded. They were 340 yds away but we couldn't get closer because of their location. So we waited there until they decided to move around mid day. When they decided to walk into an opening it was my turn and with a solid rest I was able to put the big buck down with my 7MM. Just like that our hunt was over in 2 days and we both had killed the biggest bucks of our lives.
For us it was a dream come true. I was told 2 years ago after my 5th back surgery that I would never hunt again so you can only imagine what this meant to me. So again I'd like to thank you all and especially Greg Krogh for the true "hunt of a lifetime".
Here are a couple photos of our Bucks.

I would like to second my partners praise about the MM forum in leading me to Greg. Greg is an awesome guide and a great person. Its awesome to hunt with someone with his knowledge and eagerness. I think he got more excited than us when he spotted our bucks and moved in for the shot. It was a great hunt (although short but very sweet)Going to have a hard time waiting for the mount to get done.

Thanks for the great story and congrats on two really nice bucks. And it is also good to hear a positive story about guides and outfitters. Sounds like they did a real good job for you guys.

Tim and Warren,
Great bucks, and an awesome hunt! It was good to meet you guys and share a little of your hunt out in the sagebrush. Greg is a good guy, and one of the best mule deer guides in the business. You definitely did your homework well.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-14-09 AT 09:54AM (MST)[p]Really nice buck.... you wont go wrong with Greg. He knows how to find monsters year after year.

yea.. Greg seems to really get it done! I have a PIW deer tag this year and really wish I could have hired Greg but also drew a desert bighhorn tag and had to choose my poison as to where to spend the $ on a guide. The economy just didn't help my cause this year. Anybody know if Greg would take and installment payment plan for a late season rifle hunt... haha. Congratulations to these 2 hunters and the time that they had. I am off in 6 days for my late season rifle hunt and hope I can be as successful as they were.
