So, for the second year in a row, I drew a Northern Utah rifle tag as my last choice. I know NOTHING about the Northern Unit. Last year I tried a few suggestions I got from friends, but nothing panned out.

I am looking for any help or suggestions I can get. More than anything, I would like to find a place I might be able to get my father in law onto a decent deer. He has killed a few big bucks in his lifetime, but nothing much in the last 5-10 years. He just turned 72 this year, so his years of getting out and hitting it hard are running out. Im fine not shooting a dang thing if I can get him a shot on something. He has been my hunting partner since my wife and I got married 8 years ago. He was the only person who came with me during my LE elk hunt and was right there to help me pack it out. Id like to repay the favor.

Since my wife and I had a baby this year, I used most of my vacation time, so I havent had much scouting time. I have a few days off this week before the hunt starts, to check out any suggestion people might have....so if you can help, it would appreciated. You can either post it here or PM me. Thanks in advance!!

I live in N. Utah and have a dedicated hunter tag and still can't find a shooter buck! I have a couple of good 4x4's pegged for the opener for my 63 yr old dad but they are down in a hole that would make a 20 year old body creak and ache for days. Good luck on getting the info you need.

Tuff, its been a tough year this year for mature Bucks in the northern. I know a couple guys that spend almost every weekend up in the hills and they aren't seeing the normal amount of Bucks this year. Decent amount of little guys, but the bigger bucks are few and far between, and that sucks because they are never easy to find in the N region. Good luck with your hunt though!

That is a tall order for that area. You might be able to pay a trespass fee and find a decent one in an accessible area. Seems like I saw somebody on here a little while ago, that might be able to help out with that, by the name of Crazy4Sheds.

Lots of nice bucks, but too much private property. My dad and i have got a few nice buck up that way, but i have since then vowed never to hunt the northern region again. Too many hunters and too frustrating finding land to hunt. It's all in who you know up there.

My dad and I hunted the Northern Region hard on TRULY PUBLIC GROUND. We spent time in the Uintahs with nothing more than some great encounters with some great bull elk... Then the same all over Monte Cristo... We know there are a lot of great bucks on private properties all over the region, but most land owners only sell trespass tags to friends and family.

If you want a decent buck, you'll have to luck out like the rest of us and happen upon one that inadvertently wandered off of his safe haven... It happens every year, and this may be your year!

Sorry for the bad news...
