I have been watching a few bucks waiting for the opener, (WED).

I know, which ever presents the bet shot. But if both were in perfect positions at the same time and you could shoot both, which would it be. They have been side by side everytime I have seen them.

25 inch 4x4, tall, good forks, 1-2 inch eye guards. Not a ton of mass.

OR

30 inch 3x4, not as tall, good forks on 4 side, 18 inch 3rd on back on the 3 side. Good mass. 2 inch eyeguards.

I really don't know which to shoot. I wish I had a good camera to get pics, but I don't.

HINT ON WHERE AT: I hunt the SOUTHERN REGION IN UTAH.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-17-09 AT 04:59PM (MST)[p]If he is truely 30"s then I would kill the 3x4, If he has a 18" G2 then he is a big buck, but if your looking for one that will score better then the 4x4 will probly score better.

If it is as you describe then the 3x4 just sounds more impresive to me.

Shoot the one that looks more impresive when they are standing there side by side, and the mass is one thing that makes a buck look impresive.

Give me width AND mass, and I will choose that one every time.

I'd be happy with either one. It would be a judgment call at the shot. But really, it does not matter what others think, its all about what makes you happy.

I would shoot the 30 just to say I shot one. besides you don't want the buck to breed and next year the 5x5 will be awesome. Then you have all read to dream about the other buck and how big he got. Best of both worlds.

Great example of how we screw up are deer herds just to make some number in score.

The 25" buck is most likely younger than the 30" 3x4. Take the older deer out keep the younger one for next yr.

Shoot whatever one you like. I would shoot the 30" 3x4 with no problem.
