I have read all the stuff on hear about Idaho Fish and Game and mismanagement, and no deer, and wolves, etc. I was just dumb enough to buy a tag anyways. Heck I already bear hunted up there this spring and I already paid for the $150 big game license so whats another $303 for a general deer tag. I have not rifle hunted deer for several years but I ran out of bow tags (until my whitetail hunt next month) so I decided to give the old .270 another go.
Saturday morning we hiked up into my favorite canyon and were suprised to see two cougars across the canyon. In Idaho you can shoot a cougar with a deer tag and you can buy a second deer tag so when saw two cats the game was on... Both I and my buddy tried to get a clear shot at one of these cats but never had a clear shot. I had one in the scope but no clear shot so I held off.
We continued to hike up the ridgeline and I spotted a nice buck bedded under a small cliff. He was facing uphill in the direction of the cougars. I think he had smelled them or seen them and was hiding in a patch of brush. He was very well hidden in the tall brush. At first all I could see was his horns poking up. I looked in my scope and made out the vitals through the brush. I took aim and made the shot. When he jumped up and stumbled into the pines I knew he wasn't going far.
We watched the pines closely to see if the cats would run out but we never saw them. We made our way carefully over to the pines where he disapeared.
I usually hunt the late bowhunts in Idaho and I told myself I would only shoot a buck if it was worth $300. I figured he was worth it. He has some cool mass and lots of character.
After all this was a crappy state like Idaho. Especially on a general tag.
I will probably never buy that horrible tag again@!#%$#
I hope none of you do either.

Don't buy any Utah or Colorado tags either. They suck too!!!!
