Isn't it a little early to be getting 20+ inches of snow in town?!?!?!? Those deer are in for another long winter i'm afraid. What do you guys who live over there think?

I live on the front range at elevation of 5900 ft and we have over 20 inches. We really got pounded. However, it should be 60 degrees come Monday. There is plenty of time for the snow to melt and I don't think we ever have winter kill on the front range due to snow. It just never accumulates and usually melts off. It isn't nearly as cold as some places.

But, if this were the western slope in a basin, then I think there would be a lot more concern. I am not sure what is happening over there, but I think this is more of a front range storm. Also, we had a good spring and summer, with plenty rain. So, there should be good forage available.

Probably a good time to get the camera out and capture some pictures of these bucks that hang around on unhuntable property.

Supposed to warm up starting tomorrow and all next week . . . We'll hope for the best this winter, we need a few years break for some areas to come back.

It figures since I don't have a tag this year. While I hope the weather helps everyone have a successful hunt, I pray there is no winter kill this year because the deer haven't rebounded from the last winter kill.

Even though some have taken good bucks in NW Coorado this year ,it will take several years with low winter kill to get the deer herd back to what it was three years ago.
I am planning a muzzleloader hunt next year ,but waiting to see this years harvest stats before hunting deer there.

You city-boys are so ego-centric you actually think what you see outside YOUR window is the real world. Hell if I did that in Jan. when channel 9 says it'll be 65 today and I go dressed for that I'ld be froze into a snowman by 10am! We got less than an inch from the whole thing, pleasant driving to you all!!!

Large snow storms along the Front Range are relatively common. Growing up there I've seen many from mid September to late April. It's one of the few things I miss about living in the Front Range. The Grand Valley of western Colorado just doesn't have weather.

i came home from work in Cheyenne on Wednesday due to the flying pigs.
roads were at no unnecessary travel but i wasn't going to be sick and snowed in.
good thing i did cause i have h1n1 and pneumonia
roads have been closed ever since.
doc tooke {all my money} wrote a prescription so long i think he was trying to use every letter in the alphabet.
six different meds and instructions to get to the hospital if anything gets worse.
Casper didn't get it as bad only 4 to 6" but 18 on the mountain
mainly south of douglas

Saturday opening day hunters probably slayed the deer and elk but today snowline is back up to 9000 feet after a hot day.
Would have loved to hunt but no tag this year for deer.
Central Colorado units may have something to worry about if the trend continues.
Fred- your supposed to say we have 200 feet of snow over here and not to bother coming on this side.LOL
Best,
Jerry

Yes, I'm afraid it is true. Western Colorado is under a huge blanket of fresh wet snow, almost 8 feet deep in places. Since it fell wet and now it's getting cold and frozen the deer are in big trouble. Plan on hunting elsewhere next year.

That take care of it Jerry? Still living at the same place? I drove by today coming back from Cedaredge.

Same place Fred.
Give me a call and stop by sometime.
If you lost my number give me an email shout on my yahoo account.
Yep we are under at least 490000 feet of snow with blizzard conditions.:)
Looks like sunshine for the next 10+ days acccording to weatherman if you believe them that is.LOL
Best,
Jerry
