So here is the delima. You draw a really great muley tag and find this buck first day of the season. You have almost 2 weeks to hunt. Would you take this buck? Anyone want to throw out a score and an outside spread measurement? TJ

Looks like he's missing eyeguards, very good main beams, inside spead, and g4s, no g3 on his left, and may have an extra point or two. I'd guess him mid 180's and ~32" wide.

I would take him for sure, unless I had a Henry's tag. That's about it.

I would shoot him on any unit... except the Henry's (Great Management buck). With a 33" rack, and impressive points other than the lacking g3... He's a shooter...

32 outside, if you have a henrys management tag then shoot the darn thing.

I would say he's pushing close to 32" or so. It would be tempting but I may hold off with it being first day. With 2 weeks straight hunting after that, I would feel confident I could find something with another fork or two. It might come back to kick me in the butt, but hey.....isn't that hunting?

Just depend on what I saw when I has been scouting the unit before the season.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-05-09 AT 12:39PM (MST)[p]Define great Muley tag? If it's the Henries, 13 A or B, Pauns, the late Kaibab hunts, Or Pretty much any states top 2 units. Then not only no But hell no. Great management buck though.

I have to agree with the one person on here who said it would depend on what I had saw during my scouting trips. If I had not scouted the unit and saw him opening day or the second day or....... I would drop the hammer on him. I would say he is 30-32" outside spread. No idea on score.

Put the camera down and shoot that sucker.

At this time in my life ..........boom!!!!

after I get a few on the wall then I would think about it

Here is another picture, that shows his main beam a little better. I have some video but the wind was blowing really hard and by that time he had either winded us or picked up some movement, so he doesn't give a good side view.

If it were a mgmt. tag, it would have been no question. Same if he would have had a G-3 on his left side. No brow's and no extras either. Just a big a** 3x4. It was a late season Nevada rifle tag, today was actually the last day of the season.

Did you end up getting one ttj? Or was this the only decent buck you saw?

well this elk season i didn't go after a 350 bull because i was hoping for Elvis[7x7] would show up and take the cows like he has in the past.
i wanted to be there the day he did.
i hunted 25 days and he never showed up and i never saw anything that would go 350 again.
now I'm stuck shooting a cow in December.

I ended up taking a nice buck a few days after passing that 3x4. His is a solid 180's type buck, but I do think the 3x4 is a really cool deer. Still kinda torn about the decision I made. We were hunting a really big typical buck when we killed my buck, kinda a case of mistaken identity. We didn't realize it was a different buck until we walked up on him. Just one of those things.... It was a great hunt! My dad was along for an extra set of eye which was a lot of fun. Here is a pic of the buck I killed.

Yep you killed the right one or maybe the wrong one, But you didn't kill the first one. That was a good choice on your part I like the last better.

Sweet buck you made the right decision. Besides you cant kill a big one if you shoot the first ok one you see.
