I have been collecting points for the last few years as a non-resident and was thinking about putting in this next year, I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of where to start putting in for or if I should just keep collecting points.

Thanks for any help guys I am totaly out of it when it comes to Wyoming and don't have a clue of whats good and whats ok, and hoping to find an area that will give me a chance at a 190 class buck typical or non.

That is a unit I have been considering a friend of mine went there this year and saw a lot of smaller bucks but nothing real good but they also talked to some other hunters who done really well, I am guessing by the description of the terrain that glassing alot would be real affective in which my friend didn't do a lot of. Is this unit hard to draw?

It is the hardest unit in the state to draw, and if you get real lucky you might get a 170 class deer. The 190 are their but I would be willing to bet that the chances at one of them is 1%. But on the other hand it is probably the best area in the state, which is sad. Good Wyoming deer hunting is a thing of the past, unless they change something, or you go to a private ranch.

Good Wyoming deer hunting is a thing of the past? hahaha you must never get out the truck!

I would have to agree. Wyoming has some awsome hunting. I hunted 102 when I was a resident there and saw the biggest bucks of my life. It is like they said the hardest unit to draw. Go and look at the wyoming trucks big buck contest, just google it and you will see. Most of them say what units they got them in. A lot of them are from 102.

unless your maxed forget 102...
g is good,101,100!

Good wyoming deer are a thing of the past? Apparentely you havent seen the Big Buck contest from wytrucks.com in Rock Springs.

I am maxed what are my odds of drawing, if I was to keep collecting points for the next 10 years does anyone see a unit that will be a trophy unit like the Henrys unit in Utah in the future?

Wyoming still has good deer Im not denying that, their just isnt any good trophy units, where you have a high % chance of a big buck. From what I have seen 102 has gone way down hill in the last 10 years, and they keep upping the tags. (they are taking after the utah dwr) I know of about 20-30 people who have had 102 tags in the last 5 years, and the best buck out of all those people was a low 170's. I know some of them may not have hunted very hard, and I know some of them hunted their butts off. I think their is a chance of a big buck in almost every area in wyoming, but their isnt an area anymore where you have a high % chance of it, like alot of the other states. I would say that most of the other states have at least 2 or more areas where you can count on a 180 class buck, IF YOU HUNT HARD. I could be wrong, but from my experience, wyoming does not have that, you may get lucky and get one in any unit, but dont bank on it. The high country units used to be real good, but I dont know what has happened with them in the last 5 years. And 102 is a good hunt, but dont expect to find a 190 inch buck because you may be real disappointed.

Huntinfoo has it about right in my opinion, there were thousands of hunters in the field for those bucks in the pictures. I was in 102 today, saw some nice bucks, but nothing in the 180 class, its the 7th of November and they are easy to spot.

Thanks for the information i have max points going to try and draw that unit next year do you have a starting point that might be good and forest rd. land mard of so kind iam clue-less of this area. THANKS MICK

102 a bad unit? No way! I mean come on the local MDF chapter has put lots of time and effort into starting a women's only hunters safety course to benefit mule deer!

And don't forget the stop poaching signs, even though half of them hang out at the fenced in pheasant farm!

Deer troubles in 102? Not with the muley fanatics watching over! total BS!!!

If you can't kill a 200" buck in 102 you're not hunting with Dliff Colkers...or however you say his name....

Hey Mick, dont want to sound like a prick, but getting the tag would be a great place to start!

Seriously, have you looked at the odds?

Wyoming has several good areas but some of them are down right now. 102 used to be excellent but is down due to increased tag numbers in that unit in the past few years. 141-162 used to be really good but the dates were changed and it is no longer worht burning your points. Some of the best units such as 82 and 128 have poor odds however, if it was me I would apply for one of these units and hope that you draw and if you don't draw just keep building your points untill you draw.

NO Wyoming has nothing even close to the Henries right now and wihtout major managment changes never will. It is not worth your time waiting 10 years in Wyoming unless changes are made.
