Ok. I need some advise from the experts.. I am a Utah resident and am looking to apply for Colorado deer next year. I don't know where to begin. I plan to research as much as I can before application time, but thought this would be a good place to start. I would like to apply for a unit that is close to Utah that I can draw maybe in the next 5 years or less. Muzzy or rifle don't matter. A chance at a 160 type deer or better would be great. Where should I start?? What Unit or units would I have a chance at hunting in the next couple years for a nice buck??

Depending on which you use (rifle or muzzy) you can get a great buck with little or no points at all for most western units. Most of the units on the western slope have great bucks and great draw odds except for units 10,21,30,61 and others. I see no reason to apply for these units which take a crap load of points to draw when you can get a great deer every year with other units. Just remember if you hunt rifle season you've got every a-hole and their brother hunting bull elk next to you so try to apply for the units that are draw only for elk if you wanna hunt with a rifle. The later the season you can get the better with a rifle. I prefer achery or muzzy. Im not gonna tell you which unit to apply for because it depends on how hard you wanna work to get an animal. Here is great place to start. You can figure out which tags can be drawn with little or no points then research from there. Get a good map like the Colorado atlas that shows public ground and pick a unit that has good access. Good luck!

Thank you for the info. That link will be very helpful. I would prefer muzzy over anything, but I get the feeling like 3rd season is the best chance for a nice buck. I am willing to earn a nice buck thats for sure. Any info on Unit 40?

Great deer but very limited public ground. If you have the money to hire an outfitter its a great unit but otherwise look else where.
