im archery hunting south eastern nm, found some huge bucks. wondering if any of you guys have tried to use a cow decoy to get within range? I ordered the zebu cow decoy/blind but still haven't stopped laughing at the idea of it yet. I'm hunting grass land with partial mesquite, no cover.

hornhunter, I like the way you're thinken! LOL

i don't believe big bucks like being around cattle too much. Might i suggest you get yourself a bigger Apple Tree decoy... they might just come a running!! :)

The Muleys where I hunt have a ton of cows around them at times and I have thought about doing what you're doing many times... Good luck! The deer could seem to care less about the cows in the desert... Can't wait to hear back and see what happens!

When I was a teenager I made a full size horse decoy for geese hunting. I went from 550 yards to 500 yards before they flew away. :)

I saw a show recently were they were hunting mulies with a recurve in Nevada using a montana decoy "Moo Cow" decoy. Two guys were able to get into about 40-50yds of a few bucks a couple of times but with the recurve they were still just out of range. But if you have $110 to spare it may be worth a shot.

Have you ever been chased by a range bull? Make sure you get a bull decoy vs. a cow decoy.
A real bull can out run a decoy bull.

I saw the same show as the other post and I was amazed how close they got to these deer. If the guy had been using a compound bow they would have been close enough in no time. The one thing that stuck in my head was how they made their stock at a slight angle to the deer not straight on. It looked like these two guys had a blast playing with their decoys. Let me know if you have success on this style hunt.

I'll definitely let you guys know how it goes, hopefully with a 30 incher in the pics! yeah if this cow thing don't work I've already have a tumble weed blind in the back of my mind as a back up!
