My hunting spot is so secret, not even the elk have found it yet.

Great photos and a nice buck. I love that open country like that, neat scenery. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the reply's. I took this deer on a RFW property in the NW part of the state on 11/21. It was a very fun hunt with rutting bucks everywhere. The ranch had it all from aspen stands down to low hay fields making for some awesome scenery. Saw a bighorn sheep, elk and antelope. I probably could have held out for a bigger buck, but I was a bit trigger itchy since this was my first mule deer and I went last year and didn't take one. Definitely bigger bucks taken on this place, but I was happy with this one. To me, he's a great representative mule deer, typical 4x4, decent mass and good forks. His beams and spread are weak which puts him scoring right at 170. Definitely beatable, but a good first buck. He had a very pretty cape, long hair - he'll look good on the wall. We probably saw 50-60 deer a day and probably 10-20 bucks a day. Excellent hunt, though I wished it could have been a bit more physical but I won't complain.

To echo what others have said....that is a nice buck.

Compromise, hell! ... If freedom is right and tyranny is wrong, why should those who believe in freedom treat it as if it were a roll of bologna to be bartered a slice at a time?

That's a nice buck there Muley. Congrats and you'll remember that hunt fondly every time you look at that fine rack on the wall.

Yes, I'm going to have him mounted. He is at the taxidermist right now. I'm still uncertain as to what form I want the taxidermist to use, but the guy I use takes apprx a year, so I've got some time to decide. He had a really pretty cape; I'm anxious to see how he turns out.

Thanks again.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-10-10 AT 10:18AM (MST)[p]Muleymadness,

Awesome first buck! Congrats!

I don't understand how you can have 628 posts and this be your first buck??? Now that you took this beast you're post-count will probably explode to 10,000 in a week! ;-)

I didn't see which season you took him. I'm guessing the 3rd since you mentioned the rut.

Good job!
