I promised to take my cousin to Colorado Mule Deer hunting. He is suffering from Parkinson's disease. He can still hunt but I am not sure for how long. He has 4 preference points. I was looking at unit 63 either 3rd or 4th season rifle. I am not sure if that is the area that was hit hard by deep snow a few years ago. I have never hunted unit 63. I have only hunted unit 44 3rd season. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Julius, there is an organization called Hunt of a Life time that will help you arrange for a hunt for your cousin, My son had cancer and went mule deer hunting in Oregon. He got a gun, camo clothes from Cabelas, bullets from nozzler, and Hunt of a life Time paid for room and meals for us. GREAT PEOPLE. Go to

Hope all works out for your cousin.
best wishes
P.S. This is only for kids 21 and under diagnosed with life threatening illnesses.

I don't know anything about the area. I hope someone helps this guy out. Family is all that matters.

Julius,

I have not hunted 63 but have friends that have. There are some private land issues in 63. I have spoken with the game warden and he told the deer seek refuge on private after the shooting starts. It not the biggest unit out there and I am hoping someone steps up and gives some more information.

Here are the numbers from CDOW for unit 63 deer numbers.

2007 Post hunt: 8550
2008 Post hunt: 7150

A reduction of 16% after the bad winter, some units were hit a lot harder than that.

I would suggest you call DOW and speak with the game warden for the area and see if the deer hunt would fit what you had in mind.

Good luck

Rich

We are both 55 years old and have hunted alot together. It is sad to see someone you really care about to deteriorate in just a few years. I am not going to hunt so I can spend all my time getting him close for a shot. Thanks for all your ideas and help.
