My stepdad's 2009 muley

My stepdad hunted with me in New Mexico last year and shot at a buck he swore was hit. We searched for 2 hours and couldn't find any blood or hair much less the deer. A couple of guys trying to tag some cows during the late season stumbled on the deer. He had gone about 500 yards and bedded down in some thick scrub brush where he was impossible to see without walking over top of him.

Anyway Jim Welles and crew were nice enough to buy the head and ship it to my stepdad. It's on the way now, but I had to share the story and picture with somebody. Jim scored him at 186 non-typical with 5" bases.

That was likely my stepdads one and only mule deer hunt and we were both sick we couldn't find that deer.

Neat story, glad it worked out that this nice trophy was recovered.

Look at the difference, right side to left side. Would be tuff to put those two side together if trying to match up sheds.

Great Buck. Jim Welles is a quality guy that always goes the extra mile. Always my top recommendation for a New Mexico hunt.

If he swore he hit it then why only look for 2 hours?

Great buck. Too bad he didn't recover it right away to add to the memories. Did he take another one?

We couldn't find any blood or sign it was hit. It hunched up like it was hit, but after not finding any sign after two hours we made the wrong assumption he might had shot over or under just grazing him.

No he didn't take another deer.

Glad you got the rack at least.
That why Jim is a class act in my Books he goes beyond what he has to do. Thanks Jim for making the hunt great for them.
